Splinter under fingernail

I managed to get a wooden splinter stuck under my fingernail yesterday. The main piece (sticking out slightly) was removed with tweezers. Unfortunately a small piece is still stuck under the nail and although it's visible, I can't get it out. Would a pharmacy normally be able to remove it or would it be more sensible to get a GP appointment? It's swollen overnight and stings like mad so I don't really want to leave it.. Gin

A nurse at the GP would be better.
