Stupid mistakes in Real Estate agent property adverts?

Gerwurtztraminer · 04/07/2021 16:10

Browsing properties today and have already come across

  • Decorated in a neutral palate (i.e. palette)
  • 2 well propositioned bedrooms (proportioned)
  • a contemporaneous kitchen (contemporary)

And WHY do properties have to "benefit" from or "boast"something instead of of HAVE it e.g. "benefits from 2 bedrooms" or "boasts a new bathroom"

Or pointless extra words "off street garage is positioned at the back of the property". It's just AT the back?

If people are writing adverts how about some spelling and vocabulary lessons first?

Still sniggering at propositioned bedrooms....

Our local estate agent advertises houses that boast silly things like a garden or a bathroom.
Worst is describing it as nestled

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 04/07/2021 17:23

"Comprises of..." seems to be used constantly.

TiddyAndFletch · 04/07/2021 17:29

'Most deceptive' - tiny
'This ever-popular location' - it's cheap
'In need of modernisation' - last redecorated in October 1972
'Low-maintenance garden' - a tiny backyard
'Tucked-away location' - behind some dodgy lockups
'Semi-rural' - in the arse end of nowhere
'Most imposing' - £££££££££££££

Americam · 04/07/2021 17:47

“Sort after location” is one I saw recently.

Americam · 04/07/2021 17:49

“Conveniently located” - above KFC in the middle of the high street.

“Easy access for train line” - train runs through the back garden.

amillionrosepetals · 04/07/2021 17:58

I've seen one which they say has a 'draw dropping view'. Must be really something.................

TiddyAndFletch · 04/07/2021 18:01

'Mature garden' - could easily be mistaken for the Amazon Rainforest
'Quirky' - the roof leaks
'Characterful' - bizarrely decorated
'Well-presented' - magnolia, magnolia, magnolia
'Open plan' - the sofa is next to the fridge

elephantoverthehill · 04/07/2021 18:02

Around our way we get 'sea glimpses'.

Crimblecrumble1990 · 04/07/2021 18:07

Agree on the estate agent twaddle but I think it's a bit mean to criticise someone's spelling. Some people aren't great at it, they are probably bloody good at selling houses though.

Watto1 · 04/07/2021 18:09

Shite bathroom suite instead of white bathroom suite made me chuckle!

Watto1 · 04/07/2021 18:10

‘In need of modernisation’ usually means ‘pull it down and start again’

NothingIsWrong · 04/07/2021 18:13

To me, contemporaneous would mean it's the same age as the house. Definitely not the same as contemporary!

My house was built in 1892, which possibly changes my viewpoint on that one...

Willdoitlater · 04/07/2021 18:16

'Open aspect to rear' back boundary was the wire fence of the international airport

Daisymclazy · 04/07/2021 18:16

Not quite the same but I saw an advert for a car years ago in the local paper, amongst the features, electric windows etc.. was steering wheel! Grin

Americam · 04/07/2021 18:24

Not making fun of people’s spelling @Crimblecrumble1990 but you’d think there’d be some proof reading going on at some point between the dictating of the details, the typing up, the going to print etc.

Oh I love a car with a steering wheel, it’s such a useful thing to have Grin

I think they're indicative of the literacy standards across the population. If you saw this crap in the details of the house you were selling, you'd get it corrected. I think that means that the sellers don't know any better either.

I disagree when in a professional work context. If your spelling is not very good, you are busy so careless or you are dyslexic then I think it’s absolutely fine to post with mistakes on MN or other social media.

If your job is to sell a property and you are being paid then you check, proof read etc. to make sure adverts are correct. Might also be management’s fault if they just employ enough staff and so overload staff with work.

An internal viewing is essential to appreciate the accommodation on offer - the exterior is hideous
Close to local schools - next door to the High School from Hell
Excellent access to motorway - overlooks the M62
On-street parking is available - your neighbours will hate you if you have more than one car.

Zarene · 04/07/2021 19:44

My house was advertised as 'Victorian, built in 1802'.

That’s so brilliant
RogueMnerHidesUnderABigHat · 04/07/2021 19:48

But I bet most of these are just autocorrects

You’re either connected to the industry or in house buying hell! But your posts are very funny

When did we start saying real estate? Unless you’re not in the UK.
