Nigella's banana skin curry

Really?!
I usually trust Nigella's judgement on culinary matters but not sure about this one. Is it worth making?

sounds revolting

Arsebucket · 04/07/2021 12:53

Eww

idontlikealdi · 04/07/2021 12:54

Sounds awful.

A lot of her recipes are dreadful and don't work.

Ozanj · 04/07/2021 12:58

Banana skin curry is the authentic way to use bananas in cooking. But you need to wait for it to go totally brown - the brown skin in a curry adds a really complex almost honey like sweetness to the curry without the tough fibres you find in yellow skin.

Thanks for the replies, may I respectfully disagree with the Nigella doubters (although the fish finger bhorta was a fail in my book). Thanks for the banana skin tip Ozanj, will try anything once!

I’ve not made it as my DH doesn’t like bananas but I’d love to hear what others who have made it think .

I don't trust her ay all, loads of her recipes don't work!

Which ones? I genuinely find her recipes always work for me.

LakeFlyPie · 04/07/2021 22:18

I agree Beachwalk, she's my go-to for baking and I rate most of her recipes that I've tried; except the aforementioned slimy and rather revolting fish finger bhorta - which I really wanted to love as it sounded such a great concept. To be fair it is quite possible I didn't follow the recipe properly, I do tend to read it a few times and then ad lib

I love Nigella, I’ve never had a recipe of hers fail

Horehound · 04/07/2021 22:53

I haven't had a fail with any of nigellas recipes either. Maybe it's not the recipes that were the problem Wink

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 04/07/2021 23:00

I think Nigella's recipes can be iffy...she is an intuitive cook and if you are not and you follow the recipe precisely you will carry on as per the recipe and have a disaster if (for example your eggs are bigger, or you don't pack your cup measurements enough)

I have also seen tbs for tsp as typos on her recipes, again something an inexperienced baker/cook may not query.

But banana skin curry is no end of wrong fgs. :o

We loved the fish finger bhorta in this house! Had it every week for months, until we stopped eating fish fingers because of the carbs.

We haven’t tried the banana skin curry but probably won’t, as it sounds a bit too sweet.
