90s TV actors looking older...

Been watching the first few series of Silent Witness from 1996.
I’ve been surprised at how much older characters and actors (especially ones in their 40s) look compared to how people seem to be now.
Several blokes supposedly in their 40s (and I double checked their real age on IMDB!) but looked at least a decade older.
The very beautiful Amanda Burton was about 38 yet seemed much more ‘grown up’ than the equivalent age now iyswim?
Anyone else noticed it from the 1990s? I have with earlier decades but the 90s only seem about ten years ago in my head Smile

Clothing and hairstyles are more relaxed now which I think makes me people look younger. Also huge pressure on actors to look youthful.

Yes I agree.

Also when I was a kid, a 60 year old was a proper old person (just watch Bullseye to see what I mean! Grin) but now people in their 70's are looking so much younger and stylish.

I don't agree with pp about everyone being more relaxed now. All these big bouncy blow dries, fake eyelashes, hair extensions etc no one looks like they haven't taken 2 hours to get ready and even when they're dressed down they're dressed up!

Twin peaks , they were supposed to be teenagers, in reality they were all in their early twenties but look at least a decade older ,
Beverly Hills 90210 Shock , Jenny and Tori both looked much older. They were 19/17 but looked more like late twenties .

Yeah, Botox/non surgical treatments weren’t prevalent and still lots of smoking.
Men’s skin care and sun protection was treated more as an oddity I suppose too.
I always notice actors looking older pre-90s it’s just hit me about that era.
One of the police officers and Amanda Burton’s love interest was declared ‘gorgeous’ and the consensus was that her was The Handsome Protagonist. Compared to today’s standards he really isn’t.

Lots of digs in the episodes about female characters being over the hill at 40/older woman status and unemployable in early 40s.

And I’ve spent far too much time Googling the age of the actors on Silent Witness and nearly all of them are the same ages as their character. So it’s not just a case of playing ‘younger’.

I remember watching Jaws not long back and being surprised at all these "parents" with 8-10 year olds. They all looked like their grandparents by today's standards

No insta filters.

I really noticed this when I watch the early episodes of Johnathan Creek lately. It was mostly to do with the clothes Caroline Quintin's character wore, they were so ageing that she looked much older than she was. Also mid-late 90s.
