That’s it for us. Everything was normal Thursday morning. It all started to go pear shaped Thursday afternoon. Friday the school was half closed. We were told earlier today that after a sudden flood of confirmed covid cases, the school is now closing fully. We won’t be reopening until September

Shit. That's really crap

CandyLeBonBon · 03/07/2021 22:04

Where?

JanFebAnyMonth · 03/07/2021 22:04

Wow! That must feel quite shocking. Are you in a high rate area OP?

That's a really sad abrupt end to the school year. I feel for you. That's going to be hard for parents to provide child care at such short notice. Is this primary school?

Theimpossiblegirl · 03/07/2021 22:09

That's such a shame. Are you due to finish earlier than English state schools for summer?
I'm assuming there will be online learning but how sad for all affected.

EastWestWhosBest · 03/07/2021 22:10

Oh no. No proper goodbyes or end to school life for leavers.

It’s happened at my niece’s school too. One parent had a part for the entire year group with siblings and parents. School is now closed.

NiceTwin · 03/07/2021 22:13

Wish ours would close, it is dire with no signs of improvement.

SorrySoldOut · 03/07/2021 22:14

really? this is awful!!

GiantToadstool · 03/07/2021 22:15

Are you in England!?

Lemonmelonsun · 03/07/2021 22:16

Please at least give us some small indication of where you are, and yes... Op that's awful!!

Nohomemadecandles · 03/07/2021 22:16

Well, at least you're safe from isolation bubble bursting for your summer plans...

Desperately looking for the bright side!

0None0 · 03/07/2021 22:17

Yes we are in England. Yes it’s a shock. We were recently closed and had just reopened, assuming we had had our share of bad luck. Thank you for your responses

Are they allowed to do this?

Is it a state school? If so, unless all students would need to isolate until the last day, then this wouldn't be allowed unless PHE said so.

Whereabouts in England op?
GiantToadstool · 03/07/2021 22:19

Omg it had recently closed too!?

Are they doing any online learning or anything!?

Where are you...?

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/07/2021 22:19

That must be a huge shock for you all. Flowers
Are you primary or secondary? How many cases are there?

We are following advice from PHE. And we are not the first local school to close for the year

They can if there aren’t enough staff to open it.
Hercisback · 03/07/2021 22:21

That seems very cautious advice, unless your term end was earlier than most.

Even a 10 day isolation would give students a last couple of days.

Sorry for you, and I'm guessing your staff. Online learning is rubbish.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 03/07/2021 22:22

Ten days isolating takes schools up to a couple of days before end of term.

Better for everyone to move to remote learning if staffing cannot be done safely.

iamtopazmortmain · 03/07/2021 22:22

I really don't think some people understand how quickly the delta strain rips through a school. Once one kid has it the bubble has to close. It passes on so quickly - our local schools had no cases up until the last three weeks, now the cases are going through the roof. Those people arguing against self isolation for close contacts have no idea how much havoc the virus is causing.

Thank goodness all schools will be closing soon for the summer.

Hercisback · 03/07/2021 22:22

OP doesn't read as if staff are the problem. Also even a 10 day isolation would leave them available for a couple of days at the end of term.

Secondary. I don’t know exactly how many cases. Friday it was 5 known cases and around 20 suspected cases, mostly in one year group- but two year groups were closed. Over the weekend more have come to light

If staff are ill you can’t assume they will be ok to come back to work before the end of term.
