Parental control scooter or something similar

Hi I am new to this,

I wondered if anyone had any idea or could point me in the right direction of some kind of scooter with parental controls? My son has a maxi scooter and is nearly six, we have a half an hour walk to school and he has a tendency to dart off or always wanting to run and not walk. I have a strap for the maxi scooter to pull him, but when I'm on the main road I would prefer something I could push, so I can see him. I would also need to be able to steer it, as he can sometimes lose his concentration.

Any advice is much appreciated.
Thank you

Can you not just give him directions of when to stop and wait for you? So tell him he can go to the red car, or the lamppost on the corner, or wait by the tree, whatever. Start off with small 10-20m distances, then once you can trust him allow him to go a bit further. Lots of prise for stopping and waiting, if he doesn't stop at the designated spot then make him scooter next to you for a while.

Hi Cupidity,
He cant follow instructions sometimes due to a concentration problem he has. I do what you have suggested, but need to give thirty seconds ahead so he can process what I have said in time. Sometimes it can become a bit dangerous.

Can you not have set landmarks/points along the journey that he has to stop at and wait for you? To be honest if he can’t be trusted to walk alongside you safely I wouldn’t be trusting him on a scooter, at all.
He needs to learn to walk next to you or hold your hand.
A concentration issue doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be able to follow basic, consistent expectations for safe behaviour.

What about a bike with a parent push handle? Stabilisers if needed?
