Depends on the puppy, depends on the baby.

My puppy was relatively easy. But he’s small and portable, and intelligent enough to make training fairly easy.

One baby was a nightmare in the day. Incredibly active and couldn’t be left alone for a second. Slept well though. Other was a nightmare at night but much more manageable in the day, i could get a cup of tea and drink it warm 😂.

If you have a mythical “easy” baby, a puppy might be a nightmare in comparison .

Puppy! I was broken with first pup we brought home. In fairness he’s still pain in the arse now he’s 13.
DS1 was a frickin’ breeze in comparison.

Just to add. I got a puppy when I had a 3 month old baby. The puppy caused me far more stress for a couple of months, but definitely after the first year was a good girl and a beloved pet. She’s been gone 2 years now. Where as dd1 is 16 and still causing me stress!! 😂

CommunistLegoBloc · 03/07/2021 16:17

@Imapotato

Puppy for a short period. I babies are slightly less stress, but for a greater length of time.
This seems a reasonable assessment. Interesting to have such an even spread of responses!

Whoever had both at the same time is clearly insane 😂

Babies, but I didn't find either hard, puppies grow up quicker and you can leave them without a sitter!

Puppy

Chwaraeteg · 03/07/2021 16:32

Puppies in the early stages (when toilet training etc) are harder than some babies imo.

My puppy was easier than my first baby but harder than my second baby tbh (though with puppies you obviously don't deal with birth injuries/pnd). People are more welcoming and forgiving of puppies in public spaces though than they are of babies!

@Arsebucket

Puppy.

You can’t take a puppy everywhere with you like you can a baby.

And babies don’t chew sofas.

(

My youngest son did try to cut the dining table in half with the plastic saw he got in a toy tool kit. It still has the scars.

Baby is much harder, and we had a landshark, large breed puppy who I wanted to give back in the first two weeks.

But I could leave her alone all night after the first couple of nights (she slept through from day 3) whereas it was 6 months before any of my babies slept through - and 3 years for one of them.

It's generally frowned upon to leave your baby at home alone while you go out to the shop whereas you can leave a puppy.

Puppy eats 3 times a day, baby 600 million.

3 years down the line I now have a lovely, chill, easygoing dog. My children are all monsters - except for other people. (I love them dearly but they are hard work.)

Puppy ....although it's a much shorter duration of pain and stress.

Itsacakebaby · 03/07/2021 17:09

Baby 100%

MrsTumbletap · 03/07/2021 17:18

Baby

HarrietSchulenberg · 03/07/2021 17:38

Puppy. Way harder.

Flaunch · 03/07/2021 17:44

Depends on the baby and the puppy!

I had one easy baby and one easy puppy. I’ve also had an absolute nightmare one of each!

CrumpetsForAll · 04/07/2021 11:57

@Comedycook it’s very sad you think that. If I heard you’d rehomed a dog because it ‘just wasn’t for you’ I’d assume you put a pretty low value on animal lives I’m afraid! But I can see you’re not unusual in thinking that, and of course I’d think that x100 I’d someone said it about a baby...

Giving up a puppy is entirely different to giving up a baby... obviously. How could you think differently? I mean neither is great but giving up a puppy is far less controversial than giving up a baby

onceuponacar · 04/07/2021 13:04

Puppy 100%.
My kids were a piece of cake compared to the 2 dogs I had from puppies.
I honestly had some sort of depression when They were puppies.

Roodicus21 · 04/07/2021 13:49

Puppy. I think it was more of an adjustment. At least with a baby you can take then with you to most places, you can't with a puppy. It was very limiting (still is) when planning family days out for example. Can't (wouldn't) leave dog for more than 3 hours so if we want to do a longer day trip we have to get sitters or just not go,
