@Shapesorted I just don’t think a bad puppy experience can compare to a bad newborn experience, sorry. As you said, you haven’t had a bad newborn experience. I’ve had dogs all my life with all sorts of situations. I’m not saying a baby is always harder, clearly lots of people have had easy babies, I’m just saying that an unwell puppy, or god forbid a puppy that dies, whilst heart breaking, is not the same as an un well baby. My baby nearly died and had meningitis, as well as what I’ve already mentioned. Now I’m a dog person through and through, love my dogs to bits, but I’m sorry, a puppy with epilepsy cannot compare to a baby with meningitis

Obviously baby

Comedycook · 03/07/2021 15:42

I don't know about the practicalities as I've never owned a dog. However, if you got a puppy and absolutely hated looking after it, you could get rid of it without any real lasting repercussions or long lasting judgement. Let say you met someone new and said oh I used to have a cockapoo but found I just couldn't cope so gave it away, no one would think you were a monster yet if you said the same about a baby, everyone would be horrified.

So mentally, I think a baby is harder as you know you can't escape!

Strongswans · 03/07/2021 15:45

Puppy, and I had a high needs baby!

Shapesorted · 03/07/2021 15:46

@Scrunchies you've (massively) misread what I wrote. I didn't say my puppy was harder than your baby. You don't have to compare exact situations like for like. It's not competitive woes, it's a simple question about what people have found harder, puppy or baby. You have to be pretty short sighted to think that everyone will have the same experience as you (that your babies were harder than your dogs). For me it was the opposite but I'm not saying my dog was harder that your babies. Does that make sense? I'm saying, for me, my puppy was harder that my babies. That's what I was saying. I haven't said my puppy was worse that ALL the babies. It's useful to try and see that not everyone has the same experience as you and we are allowed to have different opinions based in our own experiences.

Puppy.

You can’t take a puppy everywhere with you like you can a baby.

And babies don’t chew sofas.

Puppy definitely.

WeWantAMackerelNotASprat · 03/07/2021 15:48

Definitely puppy.
When we had ours I just couldn't go anywhere but with a baby you can palm them off on most people

Fedinbed · 03/07/2021 15:49

Baby. A millions times

WeWantAMackerelNotASprat · 03/07/2021 15:49

Should add my first baby was very easy and I could sit and breast feed whilst watching desperate house wives where she dozed and fed each afternoon 🤣

Ashleighz88 · 03/07/2021 15:50

100% baby but a lot of parents get defensive and won't admit it because there's no going back 🤣....

Chunkymenrock · 03/07/2021 15:52

Depends on the baby, but in my experience I'd say puppy.

WeWantAMackerelNotASprat · 03/07/2021 15:53

@Scrunchies sorry that you have been through that and I would never say a puppy over a baby in that situation but I took the thread to be lighthearted and am talking about my newborn compared to my puppy.

I'm sorry you are bitter too. If it's any consolation my 2nd baby had milk protein intolerance and didn't sleep unless I held her upright. Not as awful as your meningitis situation at all, not comparing that, but she wasn't a doddle like my first. I was lucky with both though how just naturally breast fed with no issues whatsoever!

TheCanyon · 03/07/2021 15:54

Definitely puppy

rainbowdashsneeze · 03/07/2021 15:55

AcceptYourself · 03/07/2021 15:56

DramaAlpaca · 03/07/2021 15:56

Baby

Scrunchies · 03/07/2021 15:56

@Shapesorted

“It's useful to try and see that not everyone has the same experience as you and we are allowed to have different opinions based in our own experiences.”

Hmm My first post was literally about the fact I’m jealous people had easier baby experiences than I did, so it is very much recognising that people do have different experiences? My point is if you found a puppy harder than a baby, you had an easy baby. Because a hard puppy is not as hard as a hard baby.

ComDummings · 03/07/2021 15:57

Baby

Bumbers · 03/07/2021 16:01

Definitely baby

DinosaurDiana · 03/07/2021 16:02

Puppy

Middlesboroughgirl · 03/07/2021 16:07

Puppy!

Not even a close contest in my opinion.

I walk a lot anyway and training and playing with a cute puppy is hardly arduous.

Feeding a baby every hour for several months with no breaks at all even in the middle of the night is harder for me.

Middlesboroughgirl · 03/07/2021 16:07

I meant baby. The opposite of what I said.

Imapotato · 03/07/2021 16:13

Puppy for a short period.
I babies are slightly less stress, but for a greater length of time.

Blossomtoes · 03/07/2021 16:15

Baby x a million. And it’s a life sentence.
