CRP 147

Sorry for posting in Chat and also for the lateness of the hour. Can anyone give me any information of someone having a CRP level of 147? I have Googled it and it says normal is 10. What are the implications of this? Other symptoms are pain in abdominal area, clammy, huge fatigue, weight loss now 10lbs in 5 days.

CRP is an inflammation marker, it’s hugely non-specific, so anything from a cold onwards can cause a raised value.

Though 147 is higher than I'd expect from a cold. If this was a neonate, they'd have sepsis. If it was a child, they would very likely have a bacterial infection. If an adult, it may be infection or inflammation. The result needs to be interpreted by the clinicians with all the facts, not in isolation by randoms off the internet.

Okay @nocoolnamesleft I get that. It's just I have spent 8 hours in hospital with someone being investigated for abdominal pain and they have prescribed antibiotics and to come back for a scan and ultrasound in 4 days time. I presume it is because the inflammation is too high for them to do it just now.
