Ds 4 has cough, temp and full of cold. Also sore stomach, not eating much. Hes starting to do the shallow quick breathing now, wheezing a little. Pcr negative.

Anything else I should be looking out for ?

Sounds like a normal cold type virus that all kids have been catching forever. But if your concerned about his breathing phone 111 and they can check on that with you and hopefully reassure you. Hope he’s on the mend soon!

It’s understandable, mine used to catch a virus every couple of months and have them almost constantly in the winter, but since covid not one! But everyone’s starting to catch the normal stuff again now restrictions have eased and I guess many of us haven't seen our children poorly in such a long time that it’s unnerving when they do get sick now.

It will be a virus, maybe rhinovirus or parainfluenza or enterovirus, but you will never know which unless he is admitted to hospital and they do a specific test which is highly unlikely (I am a nurse in a children's hospital). These viruses are very common during winter but are unusually common this summer as people start mixing more again. There were much less viruses in children last winter as they were mostly not exposed to many other people. I hope he is feeling better soon. I agree with JaffaRaf that, if you are concerned about his breathing and wheeze, call 111 and see if you can get an out of hours GP appointment.
