Eco presents for my class. Help!

I need ideas for end of year presents for my class. Not too pricey, as I'm on lower pay scale.

I hate handing out things like rubbers and bouncy balls, because, fun as they are, most kids have them already and it's not very eco.
I've done bubbles in the past, which, again are fun but not very eco.

Some ideas I've had so far are make them cupcakes (not sure how parents feel about home baking for them?)
Bookmarks, but again in year 6 lots will be going on to e readers. I think I am going to do personalised ones with a nice message on anyway, but would like something in addition to this.

They're a great class so I would love something special for them.

Any ideas?

Something edible would be a winner with me - takes up no space! A book that you write in - a classic perhaps - would be even better if you could stretch to a bulk order. If not, something consumable is better than tat!

Or a packet of seeds perhaps?

MonsterKidz · 02/07/2021 13:46

Could you take a nice class photo in the school ground and put it in a frame with a nice message. Maybe there is something arty they could do in the last few weeks with the frame, then you could surprise them with the addition of the photo.

Other idea would be a packet of seeds to plant with a nice personalised tag and message.

Or buy a book for the school library that they choose and leave a message in for future children from the class?

Seeds is a great idea or what about a book each? Cheaper if you bulk order them.

Are they going off to secondary school in September? If so, take a class photo and get a copy printed for each of them (if all kids have photo consent forms). Then give them that and a box of malteasers each

Morred · 02/07/2021 13:57

You could get a badge made - it's not too pricey if you get a small button one rather than a big embroidered one. (Not sure if we can link but I've used these people before www.bestbadges.co.uk ) They could pin them to their Y6 leavers hoodies if your school does those. Then you could write a note to them in a card.

Thanks some great ideas here. Keep them coming Smile

Yes they're off to secondary school. Unfortunately I have a few kids who don't consent to pictures but could possibly do a few staged and individual photos in groups and a few individual ones for them.
I quite like the idea of the time capsule like book- very appropriate for this year.

Our boys teacher gave the whole class each a one-scoop ice-cream voucher for the amazing ice-cream shop in town with a lovely poem attached.
To be honest, it was very unexpected! A lovely gesture, but please don’t feel you have to buy your pupils anything!

Books or chocolate

Theres an app where you can create characture/cartoon versions of everyone. When my dd left Y3, the teacher did a picture with the whole class and them and the TA as these characatures with all their likes and interests taken into account.

Then printed and framed one each.

TheSlayer · 02/07/2021 14:02

Ohh what's the app called please?

DD got a lovely bookmark in Y6. It was a word cloud thing, fairly specific to her and was just a laminated strip. Time intensive but cheap for the staff, and one of the few things she has hung on to.

NoSquirrels · 02/07/2021 14:06

Can you afford £1.40 ish per child? These ‘Sprout’ pencils are very cool. In the detachable top are seeds to plant.

Bitmoji

And I think you can circumvent the photo rules by not putting any names on and the fact they arent images of, just interpretations of.

TheSlayer · 02/07/2021 14:25

I will double check about the photo thing, but sounds like a good idea to me.
I was toying with the pencils but on their own they'd be quite pricy for what they are. I might do a few things and if they're not too.expensive I could do it as part of it.

Thank you for the ideas everyone ☺️

Do a wordle for each student in a simple frame. You can play around with fonts, colours, shapes etc. It’s all free and you can email a copy to yourself from the website (and then print out on card stock ready for framing)

ramonaquimby · 02/07/2021 14:29

ramonaquimby · 02/07/2021 14:30

Sorry meant to say you can personalise for each student with their favourite lessons, activities, etc.

TheRosesOfSuccess · 02/07/2021 14:42

What about some paper impregnated with seeds? You could pop a sheet in a named envelope for each pupil. Eco, and personal. I've made my own (it's a right faff so I really wouldn't bother Grin ) but there's one company here: wildflower-favours.co.uk/product-category/seed-paper/ and there's lots on eBay.

TheSlayer · 02/07/2021 15:00

Those look good. Do you know if you can write on them?

How about all of their first names printed in the school uniform colours, with yours in the middle in a different colour. Framed.

We did this a few years ago and the kids loved them.

blahblahblah321 · 02/07/2021 15:16

DS left year 6 with a Wordart that his teacher had made each child - lovely idea!

TheRosesOfSuccess · 02/07/2021 15:58

Yes with a pencil or crayon. In one link I looked at, it said some will also go though a printer.
