So does my mum, though I don't know why either!

Alannawhorideslikeaman · 01/07/2021 18:51

Are they Midlands?

FlibbertyGiblets · 01/07/2021 18:52

It was a brand, way back when, iirc.

Like Bounty nowadays.

Never heard that before!

If I heard someone ask for the 'polly roll', I'd think it meant some sort of bird feeder for their parrot or a tasty, rolled, sponge cake of some sort!?!? Grin

cheeseychovolate · 01/07/2021 19:37

Yes in laws call it that

HeronLanyon · 01/07/2021 19:38

Thinking some kind of paint roller but bizarrely for poly filler !
I’ve never heard this but quite like it.

Theunamedcat · 01/07/2021 19:38

We call it that we are from the Midlands

mauramonday · 01/07/2021 20:27

Ohhhh! Haven't heard that since I was a kid (East Midlands)

Skg103 · 18/06/2022 08:47

Yeah Mt family called it that when I was growing up its now a joke to all the people that come into our family cause they had no idea what it meant and found it funny 😄 I think it was a brand tho

BionicEar · 18/06/2022 08:53

My family all called it Polly roll growing up. I think it was the brand’s name originally.

I still do much to others bemusement. Don’t know anyone else who call it that, but am so glad to hear that I’m not alone! 😂

Yes! My family used to call it that. (I come from the north west.)

User4387075 · 18/06/2022 09:00

So probably like people call vacuum cleaners hoovers

Onthegrid · 18/06/2022 09:11

South East here and yes Polly Roll is the name I grew up with in the 70/80s and what we still call it. That or paper towel never kitchen towel, that is a regular towel that you dry your hands on!

If I can still remember that far back, the first brand of K roll in the U.K. was called Polyroll. I can remember being at a neighbour’s house with DPs when someone spilt a drink on the carpet, and the neighbour said, ‘Quick, , the Polyroll!’ - sheets of it were put on the carpet and stamped on hard, so virtually all the stain was absorbed at once.
This would have been in the 60s. My DPs were well impressed!
