Test confusion

Both my kids woke up coughing this morning. We went off for a PCR test, also got some lateral flow where the result was negative (for everyone in the house).

Do we need to set isolate until we get the PCR results?

Thanks!

Yes. The whole household needs to isolate (no popping out for lateral flow tests!) until you get the PCR results.

Ok, thanks.

I can’t believe we are this far into the pandemic and this is being questioned. No wonder cases are rising so rapidly again.

To be fair to the OP the government own advertising on this is not clear and when you are in the heat of a stressful situation sometimes it’s more difficult to figure something out.

I had a similar conversation with DH this morning OP so don't feel bad, it is really confusing on the government web site.

Oh get off your high horse @BlueSurfer, she was only asking a question and the rules seem to change all the time! I had to leave work today as my son (who was isolating after being in close contact but hasn’t had any symptoms) got a positive lateral flow test. I didn’t have a clue what the rules were on me coming back in work! Even my manager had to go and check as she herself wasn’t sure. I’ve been lucky and never had to isolate since the pandemic started so I’m not sure of the rules around it because they’ve never applied to me!

It’s not a high horse. It should be common knowledge and it’s an example of how badly the government are dealing with things if people don’t know this and can’t find it out with a Google that is quicker than starting a post on here.

Assuming your son got a positive a school, then it’s disappointing that the school didn’t have an email of information for all parents affected as our schools have each time it has happened.

Well thanks guys but had 2 negative PCR tests. Phew!

It doesn't clearly say what you are meant to do on government website if you have a negative lateral flow. I did try that! It says 'you probably won't have to isolate'.

I think we were pretty responsible to go and get a PCR immediately after detection of a cough.
