Notice period-

After a few years of putting up with piling workload- I’m actually working 4 days out of choice but I’ve consistently worked 7 days over the years - and no scope for progressing or acknowledgement.I handed in my notice.
I’m on a 3 month notice…what can I say no to? How can I make the 3 months bearable?

Bump??

Let’s say you work 8-4pm. The trick is to log on at 8 and log off at 4, literally that. Even if you’re in the middle of something. Could you block out time in your online diary for ‘admin time’ and then put your phone on do not disturb and decline meeting requests. The trouble is you’ve done it for so long it’s now expected. DO NOT DO IT IN YOUR NEX JOB!!! 😂😂

@HotChocolateLover thank you and so true. I realised how much if a walk over I’ve been when I handed in my notice.

@Namechanged4thi5 I could have written this myself! Toxic AF environment and I've had enough handed in my notice and it's 3 long months. Went down to 3 days per week in jan after 5 weeks leave due to stress. And like previous poster said, on my working days I log in on time and log off on time. I do nothing on my days off and I'm not available on them. Someone else should pick it up, and a plan should have been made my management for that when they let me go down to three days. Of course they didn't do that though did they. Not my problem.

No worries know they are going to try and use every ounce of me before I leave but they won't be getting much from me that's for sure. They have taken enough already. I hope you find a way to manage for the last few months!

Namechanged4thi5 · 01/07/2021 10:37

I’ve requested that I work from home the three months/ helps to get some of my mental stress sorted before I can look for another job…can they force me into work?

I was signed off for two weeks due to stress but my manger tried to put in on me to say that because I’m not able to manage my workload…

@Cinnabun18 glad you fit for the best course of action -

@Namechanged4thi5 they always try this! But the research clearly suggests that burnout is a result of workplace culture. While time management, mindfulness etc can help they can outrun a toxic work environment with no support. It is not on you at all! F**k that! And don't let that slip into your mind and become the story you tell yourself. I had these mental gymnastics and doubted myself when I first handed it in last year. They allowed me to take it back which I needed to do to get my new mortgage deal which is all sorted now (and one part of my brain told me they must think I'm ridiculous and weak and on the other hand I knew the only reason I even had this option was because they needed me) they will try and convince you it is the former. But stand firm in the knowledge that you were obviously such an asset they gave more to you as they knew you could manage and perform well.

I'm WFH but they do want people back in at least a couple times a week. I will stay firmly at home. I don't know if they can do anything about that though especially as your leaving anyway. I will have a meeting with HR if they try and force me. But I mean I'm leaving what can they do fire me lool! I'm not risking my mental health for a single second longer for these people and seeing them face to face will not support my zen.

Also clearly your manager is no good at their job. Some people have no empathy and compassion. Mine told me not to work so hard my lesser efforts would still be better than most peoples. I am doing exactly as she advised! And whilst I accept some fault in why I am in this position perfectionism, overthinking, my anxiety ALOT of it is down to how this place is. I imagine you could say the same?

People don't leave companies they leave poor manager. Mine says we want to support you whilst doing fuck all to support me. Last request was not to be put on a big project for mental health - what do you know I've been given it. I'll be leaving before completion so I'll be doing the bare minimum until I'm out of there.

Do what you got to do and use f**k it as your motto, you got to get angry so that when they make ridiculous requests of you, you stand firm in your No!

Namechanged4thi5 · 01/07/2021 11:32

Thank you @Cinnabun18 - yes I don’t want to risk my mental health any longer either…it was very clear how they treat staff so no not taking it any longer.

@Cinnabun18 hope your week is going well…I’m counting down the days!

Cinnabun18 · 06/07/2021 23:51

@Namechanged4thi5 omg I was literally doing the same this morning. It's tough getting out of bed only thing making it bearable is WFHWorked out how much holiday I'd have left over and I'm taking a few days off to shorten my notice period. My notice period is 3 months so unnecessary! I've almost done a month of it. How long have you got?

Cinnabun18 · 06/07/2021 23:54

Ooo just read yours is three months aswell! You did say! If I was higher up fair enough. Did they accept your request to WFH for your final few months?

I can't wait for the break, hope I can get back to myself a bit more and get some energy and life back in me.

Namechanged4thi5 · 12/07/2021 21:25

@Cinnabun18 beginning of another week. Hope it’s going ok for you

I didn’t wait until they accepted my proposal I made it clear that I won’t be coming in..I think it’s high time I put myself first…

Namechanged4thi5 · 12/07/2021 21:25

Have you got another role to go to?

OP posts:
Cinnabun18 · 12/07/2021 22:35

@Namechanged4thi5 ahhh good for you? What did you say? Did you go to HR or just your manager? What did they say? Good for you!

I'm not bringing it up until someone brings it up to me. Communication is dire in my company so that might take a while or never happen.

No I don't have another role to go to. I'll be taking a break for a while and then figure out next steps. Due to some other things going on, it feels like the right thing to do. What about you?

Namechanged4thi5 · 15/07/2021 12:31

@Cinnabun18 hope you are well. I tried to talk to my manager of plans about coming in but doing it in a way that works for me. I’ve been going in 1 day a week but they want all staff to come in 60% of the time but my work includes working across sites do trying to work a plan out. She was irritated about me handing over notice so basically said I don’t care what you do as you are leaving.

I thought well if that’s your attitude I’ll finish my work load from home- why risk my physiatrist mental health? I haven’t been in and not planning to/ to anyone who asks I’m responding by saying I’m leaving finishing my work from home.

I’m similar to you- haven’t got a role lined up so will figure out what next. I feel mentally exhausted so need to catch a breath before looking for a role.

OP posts:
Cinnabun18 · 15/07/2021 13:10

@Namechanged4thi5 urgh they sound horrible! Glad your getting out. I'm exactly the same I'm so exhausted and burnt out the idea of looking for a job and interviewing is too much at the moment. Just need a breather. There's also some other personal stuff going on that I think the break is more than needed. I can tell people are getting frustrated with me only being in part of the week but it's not my problem or my fault that management gave permission but no provisions.

Namechanged4thi5 · 16/07/2021 12:09

@Cinnabun18 focus on yourself. If I’m honest I do have good/bad days…sknedays I feel I took the right decision in liking after my well-being, the growth prospects are zero so no drive left in the role.

Other days I feel I should have just carried in until I found another role. It’s interesting how much of a ‘hold’ a job has on you

VaccineAnxiety · 27/07/2021 22:32

@Cinnabun18 hope you are ok and notice period going fine?

Cinnabun18 · 28/07/2021 09:46

Hey, yes I'm ok down to my last month due to holiday I have booked in. They finally announced the other day so I can stop hiding it. My company is weird AF about communication we usually find out the day before people leave.

Still haven't gone into the office.

How is it going for you?
