I've done something silly re new job ...

And all my adult common sense and vocabulary has gone out of the window on how to approach it.

I've accepted a job, but I'm going to struggle to fulfil the hours due to my SEN child. Not by much, but still ....

I feel awful (I struggle with anxiety, people pleasing and catatrophising!) about not bringing it up either in the interview (I thought I would address it when I got the yes/no phone call) and then bottled it when they rang me to offer the job.

Can someone give me a clear sentence or two on how to approach this with them? Phone call or email?

(And no, I wouldn't hire me either on this performance!)

I'm sorry, it sounds really tough. You really should mention this at the offer stage though next time, I've been involved in recruitment and tons of people apply for FT then try to amend to PT or amended start/finish.. it's really frustrating for the employer. That said, I really hope you can negotiate it for your next role, good luck.

Why can't the person who works from home ask to adapt their hours. Its difficult but you can't really accept a job and then say you can't do the hours. I know somebody who asked to leave 5 minutes early to catch a train. And get there 15 minutes earlier in the morning. Also to do with child care issues. They said no so she turned the job down. There might be others in the same position as you who want amended hours.

Can you tell the taxis escort your problem, they will most likely change your pick up time. He could be picked u first which may give you an extra half hour or so.

I was a taxi escort for a bit and I’d definitely do this for you as I’d get paid more for the extra time, she’ll most likely bite your hand off!

Oh.My.God.

Stand down ...panic over GrinGrin

It's sorted!!

I can give him a door key and the taxi can pick up/drop off without an adult in the house! His school have confirmed this is ok too.

Glad I didn't eat my body weight in chocolate before I found out Smile Such a massive relief, as I'm sure some of you will appreciate.

Many thanks for the suggestions and support ThanksThanksThanks

@HoollyWugger I assumed because of his SEN he couldn’t be left alone!

Glad you’ve figured something out.
