Help me find a book

I might be confusing a couple of books, but the story I remember was about a horse’s head, nailed to a stable door. It granted wishes, and the person who made the wishes was granted a bronze, silver then gold suit of armour? Does anyone know of this story or have I mixed things up?

It sounds a bit like the old fairy story of the Goose Girl, where the horse Falada has his head nailed above a door, and speaks to people.

I’ll look into that - does it have suits of armour?

Don't remember armour, but there may be different versions.
