I have a lot of DVDs
People who have a lot of DVDs - how do you store your DVDs?
What storage have you got for them and where from?

I expressed that badly, you need seven movable official “shelves” plus the bottom fixed plinth to make eight shelves total that perfectly fit DVDs, IYSWIM?

I think they come with 4 or 5 movable shelves so you have to buy extra.

purpleme12 · 30/06/2021 22:19

Oh god this sounds complicated lol

It’s not. I’m just making it sound complicated. Grin

I’ve checked. It comes with five shelves. So buy one standard sized Billy plus two extra shelves for it for roughly every 400 DVDs you have. The spacing is then so perfect it almost looks tailor made. You can buy glass sores for them if you want, too.

Thanks for making me calculate the extent of my DVD addiction!

Glass sores. Grin I give up. Wine

I don't like the wallets, I like being able to see the boxes lined up. I realise that's not always practical

Jocasta2018 · 30/06/2021 22:29

Billy bookcases!

BeagleMomma · 30/06/2021 22:31

We have a massive multi-disk zippy bag.

It can hold 400 DVDs.

It saves so much space!

purpleme12 · 30/06/2021 22:33

I not sure I can give up my DVD cases even if it does save space...

I didn't think people did dvds much now everything is online. We have all our old ones unboxed in a folder catalogue, it holds hundreds yet zips up into compact file; haven't been in it for ages. It's crazy how things change.

Popcornbetty · 30/06/2021 22:46

Oh the boxes are in the loft in binbags, i would have chucked them but dh is a hoarder 🙄

chesirecat99 · 30/06/2021 22:46

Gnedby is the DVD unit that fits with the Billy bookcase system or can be used on its own. It's only 17cm deep, if space is an issue. You do have to secure them to the wall though if they aren't in a run of Billy bookcases. It holds 88 DVDs or 180 CDs. It's also great for standard paperbacks and only costs £20.

purpleme12 · 30/06/2021 23:05

I think the gnedby wouldn't hold enough lol

We have a LOT of DVDs. We don't want to be beholden to keep subscribing to streaming services to keep access to the media we want to watch and rewatch. We rebox the DVDs into slimline cases that take up half the shelf space of the cases they are sold in, and I had some shelves custom-made to the exact dimensions by a local handyman.

purpleme12 · 30/06/2021 23:11

Yes that's what I think too! I love being able to watch what I want when I want!
These streaming services might have a lot but they don't have everything

MadisonAvenue · 30/06/2021 23:16

They were all on a tall Billy bookcase in the spare room but we redesigned it and now they’re in storage boxes underneath the spare bed, and also in some boxes in the Kallax unit in there too.

We don’t actually have the DVD player connected, we bought a new TV last Autumn and didn’t have the correct cable for it.

MargaretFraggle · 30/06/2021 23:55

I also like the boxes. Especially of programmes I want to announce that I have watched Wink

I find streaming services OK but a bit annoying at times and when our wifi isn't working (often) DVDs are wonderful.

LittleBearPad · 01/07/2021 00:05

They’re in a cupboard. Their days are numbered!

Popcornbetty · 01/07/2021 09:39

Yeah i tend to watch new stuff on netflix/amazon etc but if there is some things i want to watch again at Christmas or whatever they are there in the cupboard. The title thing pointed out by a pp can be solved by labeling outer pockets and saves tons of space, i have one of those labelling devices and it takes second (have been known to use it all around house when organising)Blushq
