I got a letter from the DVLA saying that my tax direct debit won’t go out because I don’t have an MOT certificate. So I booked in my MOT and it passed today. Tax due to come out of my direct debit tomorrow.

Only I can’t find the bastard letter the DVLA sent me now and I don’t know what to do to notify them that I’ve got my MOT and it says it takes up to 5 days to show up online that the MOT has been done. So I guess tomorrow the direct debit won’t come out and I won’t be taxed.

Can I drive my car in the meantime? Do I need to set up the direct debit again? Has anyone had a similar letter?

No you can't drive it until you have resolved the tax issue. It is illegal to drove a car untaxed unless it is exempt.

Go on delay website. It will give you the info you need.

How long have you been driving without a valid MOT? Also illegal and invalidates your insurance

Can't you just go online and pay then and there

DVLA website doesn’t tell me what to do in this particular situation. I didn’t drive the car without an MOT except to the MOT test (which is allowed)

Sorry, no idea, but thank you for posting. You’ve just reminded me that my car tax runs out tomorrow and I had totally forgotten! Thankfully I’ve just found my DVLA reminder letter. Thanks!

Glad I’ve helped someone @Twitchynose!

Phone them and explain. They can take payment over the phone if necessary. You need to tax your car if you want to drive it, obviously.

They're open 8-8.
