Welsh Wales chat?

If there's a Welshnet on here, I apologise as must have missed it.

I thought we could have a Welsh thread for discussion or questions and answers. All nice, obviously.

I'm not Welsh but my grandma was and her family goes back to 1600 in Wales.

We are looking to move, but not sure which area yet, just doing my research.

Perhaps I can start the questions.

1.What is Betws-y- coed like to live. (Employment)

  1. Do people live in Portmerion

Betws y coed i lovely. Expensive for the place but its touristy. Employment wise, agriculture, council (Conwy), llandudno fir the shop’s etc, NHS

Portmeirion is a hotel and holiday lodges/apartments. Stunning and great if you get a good deal. I paid £85 for a 3 course dinner and a villa for the night. Dinner is around £60

People don't live in Portmeirion. Minffordd and Penrhynddeudraeth are close but both pretty down-at-heel villages.

Betws is lovely but locals have been priced out of most of it.

Agree with MrsDThomas re employment and Betws. Unless you are happy with seasonal work, you are likely to need to travel to Caernarfon / Colwyn / Bangor for jobs. What do you do, and do you speak Welsh fluently? (required for a lot of government & local government jobs in the North West... Not such an issue in the North East).

Aw, that's awful people being priced out, will try to avoid those areas, probably couldn't afford them ourselves.
We are/ were touring musician and entertainer, but now having to do things online, so I'd be looking for something pt until business picks up. I started out in Tourism and it's also my degree so I could manage most of these type of roles.

Thanks for the comments and sorry not to get back earlier but was in Llandudno last night. Bit cloudy though so the Orme was almost invisible. Thoroughly enjoyed myself though.

I hope this thread can keep going as I always feel Welsh people miss out on here.
Oh, no I don't speak Welsh, but as soon as I've completed some cpd I'll be learning.
I know English is spoken a lot, but I find it rude not to learn.
