It's the little things in life....

What are the little things in life that just make the day / moment 'nicer'? I'm thinking along the lines of having a favourite mug for coffee in the morning.

I've got a non milestone birthday coming up and would love to suggest little things that could be used every day rather than anything 'big'

@BrownEyedGirl80

The biscuity smell of ddog fur. Ds smile and the smell of his skin. A facetime call from dh who is working away
That is so lovely! The smell of either of my DD'S and they are teens!

@M0rT

If you love baths you need a bath pillow, game changer!
Oh yes! Had one years ago and you're so right!

@AlCalavicci

Finding out my fav narrator has just done another book in the series on Audible and been able to settle and listen to him for a hour or more .

Mad cat Zoomies

I love getting lost in an audio book...one of the biggest things I missed in lockdown was the ability to listen to a book on my own! Normally happened driving between appointments so it just didn't happen. An amazing narrator can just spirit you away. I got into Audible because of the How to train your dragon books read by David Tennant - bloody brilliant!!

I like David Tennent too , though I have not listened to How To Train Your Dragon.
My favoutate narrator is James Marsters , esp the books wrote by Jim Bucher - The Dersden Files , his humor and attitued make for a good light hearted but sometimes dark books.

Clean sheets
I have a camomile and rose tea every evening.

andora82 · 01/07/2021 23:16

Using my shoe horn

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/07/2021 00:26

placemarking so I can add a photo in the morning

Newestname001 · 02/07/2021 01:35

I used to have a massage almost every Friday after work (long pre-Covid). I'm not sure why I stopped as I looked forward to it all week and it started my weekend off so well.

I'll give it a little while and rebook I think. There are places very local to me which do a variety of types of massage. Then put in cashmere socks and float home on endorphins! 🌹

hilariousnamehere · 02/07/2021 01:47

Ooh what a lovely thread! Mine are:

Hot chocolate maker/milk frother - mine is Smeg and is easily my favourite thing in my kitchen
Fountain pen, your favourite colour inks (mine are mint and hot pink) and a notebook with lovely paper
Actually anything stationeryish
LED candles with a remote control
Noise cancelling headphones
Super soft PJs
A V shaped pillow both for side sleeping and propping yourself up to read in bed - bliss!

FelicityBeedle · 02/07/2021 01:59

My good knives, I have a set but my first one made such a difference. I honestly get a little thrill every time I chop something and it goes through with no resistance at all.

cariadlet · 02/07/2021 03:03

Changing the bed and then having a bedtime shower instead of just the usual morning shower. The feel of clean sheets when you are also fresh and clean is so good.

Graphista · 02/07/2021 03:09

A good mug as you say op! My dd played a blinder a few birthdays ago for me getting me a mug based on a favourite film BUT it's a decent size without being too big, it's not too heavy AND I CAN GET ALL 4 FINGERS IN THE HANDLE

I hate getting mugs that are awkward to hold/pick up

Extra long charger leads - in different colours for different tech! Makes life so much easier

As does the lencent 4 port usb plug adapter I got based on a recommendation on here!

So so useful and when dd was going on her first holiday without me I got her one. She was a bit ... then was ms popular with her friends on that holiday!

Also the omeril led head torch also recommended on here. I use it for crafting as my eyesight isn't what it was, but soon after I got it we had a power cut and it was soooo useful! Angles and has different light options, I'm thinking also very handy for parents of young dc and carers

Ear loops for my airpods - they will not stay in my ears so I got these ear loop things - game changer

I always have a fountain pen, ballpoints are fine for quick notes but for really pleasurable writing always a fountain pen - @hilariousnamehere I favour teal and forest green myself

Nice smelling candles/tea lights

Nice perfume that doesn't make my skin go angry!

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 02/07/2021 03:15

A nice lunch box or bag with cool packs and filling it with food you really like. Economical and a little bit of home in the middle of the day.

Clementine8 · 02/07/2021 03:44

The perfect size coffee cup, most cups are far too big. Posh hot chocolate , DD gets me a new one to try each birthday. And stationery of any kind. I’m adding coloured ink cartridges to my next wish list. How did i not know about them!

RachyAnn34 · 02/07/2021 06:40

I've recently brought a bamboo hair brush it cost under ten pounds but I've wondered why it's taken until now to buy one, I never realised how much easier it would be to do my hair, it untangles it so easily it makes doing my hair so much less of a chore, I also use it on my daughters hair, it's only a little thing but I'm so annoyed it's taken until now to get one.

sandgrown · 02/07/2021 06:48

Years ago I was bought an old fashioned barometer. I love to check the weather as I leave in the morning. The barometer is always right .

DinosaurDiana · 02/07/2021 06:52

A ‘V’ pillow for reading in bed.

Cowbells · 02/07/2021 06:56

Really soft slippers
Gorgeous handwash by the kitchen sink - L'Occitane verbena or lavender
Really good bubble bath/shower gel like Neal's Yard Orange and Geranium
Really nice hand cream like Cath Kidstone Rose
Cashmere socks and gloves
A good purse - e.g. Osprey or Radley (MN hate Radley but they do great purses)
Good quality scented candles - they cost a fortune but smell so much better than cheap ones.
House plants. I get so much joy from them. DS bought me a flowering one for Mother's Day and it is still flowering! Makes me smile every time I walk into the kitchen.
Flower vases
Good fresh coffee

toolazytothinkofausername · 02/07/2021 07:06

In the winter putting underwear and socks on the radiator the night before so they are warm when you get dressed in the morning Smile

sunnysidegold · 02/07/2021 07:33

I came on to say a really nice shower gel really lifts the start of your day. I bought some l'occitane almond oil shower gel for my mum and bought one for myself on a whim. It's so nice! I usually only use it in my Friday and weekend showers but may just start using it daily.

I put nice handcream in my car and by my sink.

Meruem · 02/07/2021 08:08

I love a bath so I have a nice tray that goes over the bath with a book stand, wine glass holder etc. I also got a jacuzzi bath mat, which has been a game changer! I absolutely love it. I’m now eyeing up bath pillows. I also have a super soft dressing gown and comfy slippers.

Anything that smells nice. Nice candles, diffusers etc. I have a lot of plants and pictures in my home. They make me happy. I enjoy crafting so new supplies or projects are always a good gift for me.

ChocolateHelps · 02/07/2021 08:33

You are my kind of people! Thank you for all your replies. I was at the tennis yesterday so it's just lovely to sit and read these replies with my good coffee out of my favourite mug (thin china, not too big etc) 😂. I've got a nice John Lewis basket filling up as my reminder list to show DH for not so subtle gift ideas!!! Thank you. May we all have a nice bath and clean sheets, gorgeous smelling candles, an abundance of stationary and especially coloured fountain pen inks! Oh the joy in every day moments

Why have I never thought of this?! Genius, thank you!
hilariousnamehere · 02/07/2021 11:14

@Graphista nice choices. I love petrol blue too but am yet to find one I really like that I can keep buying and isn't a limited edition!

@Clementine8 Diamine is my favourite, it's lovely and smooth and they do so many colours in cartridges - and shimmery inks in bottles too!

@ChocolateHelps it's a lovely thread and I hope you get lots of little happymaking luxuries!

Graphista · 02/07/2021 15:45

@Clementine8 I've been obsessed with coloured inks since high school! I was all about purples then

I also do calligraphy having taught myself in order to make my own wedding stationery - saved me money and was something quite soothing to do of an evening, but I've not done this in a while

@RachyAnn34 the bristles are bamboo? I'm trying to think how that would make brushing better/easier - fascinated to know. Dd and I both naturally curly and really struggle to find combs and brushes that de tangle without breaking the hair

@Meruem I've recently got back into cross stitching and have spend stupid amounts on supplies and a new craft bag. But it makes me happy and I can afford it so why not? (I'm disabled, mentally ill and housebound little pleasures like this are all I have!)

@hilariousnamehere petrol blue is gorgeous too. It can be hard to find particular colours at times
