Please can someone advise me on what to do, I am a single mum to a three year old boy. I am drinking a bottle of wine every night and I can't stop. I have done this for the last two years. I don't know why I am doing it. I am so sad that I feel like I have to drink when I have such a beautiful son good job nice house my own car. Why can't I just stop. I have always liked a drink but nothing good has ever come of it. Please don't judge.

Are you bored in the evenings, once your son is in bed? Sounds like you need to find something else to do (and to drink) and not to have wine in the house (except maybe Friday and Saturday night).

I'm sure other people will be along with more positive suggestions. Well done for reaching out.

What happens you don't buy it/have any in?

Hollyxxxx · 30/06/2021 11:23

I live next to a shop so it's very easy for me to get. I have had nights where I haven't had any, I clean and play with my son and then we go to bed. Those days are very few and far between as it is just so easy for me to buy. There is definitely something in the way that wine is marketed for mums that has roped me in. But the fact that I am aware that it is damaging my health and will ultimately affect my parenting, I need to change this now. I can't bare the anxiety and feeling shit constantly.

Can you pick a day a week that you won't get it? Say every Monday. Then a couple weeks after, once that's habit, none on Monday and Tuesday, until you've cut it down to only 1 or2 days a week.

Try buying a non alcoholic drink that you particularly like. Perhaps sipping that would help?

Think of a (non-alcoholic!) treat you could get yourself with the money you don't spend on wine? A grown up version of a reward chart Smile
