Cookery book recommendations - esp American bbq

Morning all.

I’m after - in particular - a good American barbecue recipe book. I’m watching The American Barbecue Showdown on Netflix and I want to try some authentic dishes, including sides, but tbh I’m wary as a lot of the books I looked at the reviews were not great.

And any others that you love as well, I love cook books!

Must have pictures though, can’t abide no pictures Grin

Jamie's America is good, it's not just BBQ though

Have you looked at the Weber books? There are a few and would seem to fit the bill on what you’re looking for.

I absolutely love The Homesick Texan by Lisa Fain. The bbq recipes are all for the oven, but I just use the marinades and throw them on my bbq. We make the tomato cobbler and coleslaw from that book on a regular basis. She actually has a blog as well

Ok just looking at dh's BBQ books on the bookcase! he has;

How To Grill - Steven Raichlen (pretty sure that's American)
Weber's Complete BBQ Book - Jamie Purviance
Weber's Ultimate BBQ Book - Matthew Drennan
The BBQ Bible - Steven Raichlen

dh is South African they call it a Braai, he's a man obsessed!

The Science of BBQ and Grilling by Meathead is frequently used in our house - it is good on techniques and has lots of American recipes. He is on twitter as @meathead

Also the Hang Fire cookbook by Samantha Evans and Shauna Guinn

I was given the cookbook that goes along with the supremely cheesy US Food Network show "Down Home With the Neelys". It may give me a heart attack one day but I think that adds to the authenticity! It is just one kind of BBQ (Memphis) plus a lot of soul food favourites, but it's exactly as I remember from the USA and always hits the spot when I'm missing BBQ. Complex and fancy it is not - but it is certainly authentic, especially the sides.

And you can buy a used copy for a fiver!

www.amazon.co.uk/Down-Home-Neelys-Southern-Cookbook/dp/0307269949?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

PS Ignore all the wittering on about family being the most important thing and how they're high school sweethearts - I think that was all just a lot of guff to tie into the TV show.
