Which tablet for elderly parent?

My head is spinning trying to research this. Elderly DF wants a new tablet.

He is very computer literate but his actual needs are quite basic. Cheap and cheerful, budget-wise, say £150 max.

He does however want an up-to-date operating system as it has to be an upgrade from the tablet he's currently using, which is "a bit past it". So good processor, and good operating system, a reasonable amount of storage.

He doesn't use WhatsApp, FaceTime etc, doesn't watch movies on it, doesn't need good camera, doesn't do online food shop.

He will use it for emails, lots of internet research, will watch YouTube videos about how to do DIY etc, read various news sites, check the weather (obsessively), buy lots of things online, read reviews of products.

His eyesight is terrible so he needs good screen resolution.

I was thinking Lenovo, but it seems that for his budget they tend to have an old version of Android. Samsung and Apple are out, obviously, and there are loads of brands I've never heard of.

I was also thinking about an Amazon Fire but tbh I'm not really sure what they do that makes them different from an Android.

Can anyone bung a few ideas my way, please?

My parents have got the Fire 10 HD, one an older model and the other the 2021 model. They do have a slightly different OS to Android, but you can still do everything you want to, and if there's something not available in the Amazon App store, you can sideload the Google Store in five minutes.

Is he willing to wait a while? The new version was £90 on Prime Day last week, it will be a fair bit higher now. They have regular reductions though, if you keep an eye on it.

If you look at elek direct they are the budget arm of ao.com they have a number of tablets for your budget including a larger lenovo.
They were great with me whe I accidentally purchased a huawei tablet, these do not now get playstore or lots of apps so avoid them
Came to house picked up tablet sent me a different one after discussing what I wanted and gave me full refund

This is really useful, thanks so much everyone. Flowers

I've had good experiences with ao.com buying fridges etc so I'll definitely investigate elek direct. And I'm going to explore the Fire HD 10 further.
