Read and run

I often see this phrase - as in "I didn't want to read & run".

I'm puzzled. Does this mean that the OP can see who has read the post?

If not, why post that phrase? Nothing to say, then just scroll on by.

It because they were just logging off or doing something, but didn't was the OP to think nobody cares. It's usually used late at night and bumps the thread.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 28/06/2021 19:01

The op can't see but it's handy to keep a thread in active so someone who does have advice can answer. It also let's the op know that their thread isn't being ignored and people are reading, even if they can't help.

Usually when it's a very complex case that would require proper professional type level advice but is also really bad so they don't want the poster to feel alone.

Thanks. I've not been around for very long, & still get confused at times.
Still puzzled why it's OK to call somebody a c*nt, but not fat?

That's a bit of a leap from 'read and run'!

Arbadacarba · 28/06/2021 19:47

It's either what pps said or a way of place marking masquerading as concern.

MN is famously tolerant of swearing, though if you called another poster a cunt, that would be regarded as a personal attack. Usually fine to apply it to politicians etc.

Fat-shaming tends to be frowned on - because there are often complex issues leading to an individual's weight problems.

FlibbertyGiblets · 28/06/2021 19:52

Ps no need to star out cunt, HTH Smile

AdaColeman · 28/06/2021 19:55

Neither of those comments would be seen as being in the spirit of MN, and personal attacks are not allowed, so if reported are then deleted.

VettiyaIruken · 28/06/2021 19:56

I feel like I missed a big part of the conversation 🤣 how did you get from read and run to cunt and fat?

SunshineCake · 28/06/2021 19:58

There was another site which showed how many people had read the post compared to replies. It is pointless here as the OP has no clue who if anyone has read their post and just putting I don't want to read and run and nothing else is silly.

chickenyhead · 28/06/2021 20:29

Why would you want to call people fat?

I get calling out cuntish behaviour, but what have fat people done to you?

Just an easy way to feel superior?

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 28/06/2021 20:31

On here its OK to say "you sound like a cunt" because that's not a personal attack. "You are a cunt/fat/whatever" is a personal attack.

I'm interested in your next question after the leap between the first two 🤣🤣
