Dad's 60th Birthday - Present Ideas (help!!)

Hi!

Hoping the crowds of mumsnet can help a girl out. My Dad is going to be 60 in August this year and I am so stuck for gift ideas. I am usually generous with my Dad as he means the world to me so I am open to all budget options...

Bit of background on him... he still works full time but is financially comfortable. We go on nice family holidays, trips, meals out etc and he loves to treat us if he can. He LOVES music (Beatles, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Clash, Rolling Stones etc etc) and loves vinyls. He has his own vinyl player so that is not an option and also his vinyl record collection is HUGE and still growing. He loves Chelsea FC and just a great overall family man. Also loves Whisky, vintage watches, vintage cars.

I want something meaningful but also not small. He is having a hard year. First the pandemic but also now my Mother has decided she doesn't want to be a part of the marriage any more and in the coming months they will be separating and he is DEVASTATED. So another reason why I want to pull out all the stops for this bday as I don't know how much longer we have together as a family of four.

One thing I have seen is the framed prints of '60 reasons why we love you'. I really like this idea and would be nice for him to hang in his new house once he moves out etc. But I need something else - something like silverware? Please help with ideas....

He has a lovely whisky tumbler already, has lots of art, he loves clothes so buys himself a fair amount. Any ideas I would be so grateful.

Thanks!

No ideas, but perhaps ask him what he would like?

Hi, look at a whisky subscription - Whisky Me is a good one.

Ticket to a Chelsea match and a night in the hotel there also? (The hotel in the grounds).

My brother and I got our dad a Grand Prix ticket for his 60th, wasn't cheap but he loved it.

Hope you find something and happy birthday to your dad 👍🏼

I also love music. How about gig tickets and possibly a hotel if it's not a local gig? I use either bands own websites, ticket master or gigs and tours. Com. Book hotels separately. I often grab a Travelodge or Premier Inn near to the venue. Or something that I'd love is a printed franed list of all of the number 1 singles for my year of birth.

My dad sounds like he has similar interests and for his 60th we bought him a Bob Dylan painting (as in, painted by Bob not OF Bob). It's rank really, very brown but he loves it and even more so because his idol painted it!

Alternatively, for his 65th we got him Rolling Stones concert tickets (not sure if sensible post-covid though).

For his 70th, we've booked afternoon Tea at The Corinthia - is your dad a bit of a foodie? We did Rick Stein's restaurant a few years ago and that was a real treat.

Thanks, I have asked him a few times and his response at the moment is that his birthday is thr last thing he's thinking about right now (with the separation etc) so I don't want to keep asking

@snowstorm2012

Thanks for these. I will look into Whisky Subscription...

He and my brother are Chelsea season ticket holders so sadly the ticket idea won't work.

Will also look at Grand Prix!! Thanks

@Seiheiki

Thanks for those ideas.... for Father's Day I got him tickets for the Killers at the Emirates Stadium next year so probably won't do a concert again.

But definitely will check the framed no.1 idea... thank you!

Ronnie Wood from the Rolling Stones is a fantastic artist too.

Sweetener12 · 29/06/2021 05:36

'60 reasons why we love you' sounds really great, OP! You can make it in a collage form by using pics that represent each reason and add a small gift related to every one of them. You can use digital birthday collage templates like here or here, too, and then print the whole thing out.
A Bob Dylan painting would make a perfect gift, too. Maybe there are also any books written about his favorite singers, i.e. a special edition biography, etc? There are also wooden signs with famous lyrics that can be placed on the walls like posters, think about something of this kind, too. This one is currently unavailable but I think there could be more- www.amazon.com/SJT-ENTERPRISES-INC-Always-Sometimes/dp/B01BFK8JPG/?tag=mumsnetforu03-21
