Campers - no electric hook up - what do I dooooooo??!

Hi all,

I've booked to go to an event shortly where we'll be camping for 5 days, but was unable to secure an electric hook up pitch. And I don't think personal generators (if that's a thing?!) are allowed.

I need to charge phones and use some sort of device to prevent my barnet from scaring people!

Any suggestions?

Solar chargers? We have some for phones and iPad etc.

valentinoandme · 28/06/2021 11:55

Solar power banks for phones. I always use the plug sockets in the toilet blocks on campsites for hairdryers and straighteners.

Maskedrevenger · 28/06/2021 11:56

Power banks charged before you go, some of the bigger ones will do 3 full charges and a hat.

Solar chargers and a big hat?

Talipesmum · 28/06/2021 11:59

You need a high capacity power bank. There are loads on amazon etc. You charge it up before you go, and use it to recharge your phone daily. If you are worried get two and charge them both up.
These power banks often say they are solar rechargeable but please don’t count on that - it doesn’t work very quickly and for what you want you basically need to just charge it up in advance.

I would forget about hair stuff. Not a chance power banks will work for that. There might be plug sockets in a communal area eg outside the showers or where the freezers are for ice packs?? Worth checking in advance.

Fully charged power banks, some you can top up by solar. Will you have a vehicle? I have a pair of 12v straighteners that plug into my car. I've also had gas ones in the past. You can also then top up your phone from the car battery if you have the right cable.

Gas tongs/hotbrush? I've got an old Braun hotbrush and I've seen gas tongs. Power banks can be great.

We charge our phones in the car whenever we go anywhere, when camping without electric hook-up. Also, if you sit in a coffee shop or pub they may have a plug socket you can use.

Battery pack for phones. Hair band for your hair.

Eileen101 · 28/06/2021 22:27

Power bank for your phone. Use the hair dryers in the toilet block? If there are none, a hair bobble.

NannyR · 28/06/2021 22:27

I have an Anker powerbank (think it's 25,000 somethings?) and it keeps my phone topped up for a couple of days.
Can't help with the hair situation - maybe a hat!?

I was trying to figure out what kind of hat the power bank would change. (As in the power bank could do ‘three and a hat’s worth’ of charge.)

...but now I realise you mean to pack a hat for the hair situation.

Powerbanks, and camping hair (french plaits!)

waltzingparrot · 28/06/2021 22:43

Is the event you're going to having any phone charging companies on site.? You can book in advance for regular power bank supply or other options.

Seesawmummadaw · 29/06/2021 10:47

Another vote for anker power banks for phones.

If there is communal wash facilities there will be sockets although personally I never bother.

RogueMnerHidesUnderABigHat · 29/06/2021 11:02

The joy of camping is that it's so different from being at home.

Embrace it, or you'll be miserable because you won't be able to recreate home conditions

Blueeyedgirl21 · 29/06/2021 11:12

French plaits, you could get them done at a salon beforehand - I sometimes get boxer braids done and they last a few days
