Why do Airbnb owners keep cancelling on us?

We're looking to go for a long weekend to Cornwall in July. Our first host cancelled shortly after the booking because "she listed the wrong address for the property". Our second host cancelled because there's "maintenance issues".

However, when I look at the listings, they are still fully booked (also for the dates we wanted to go).

Is it because we have a 10 month old baby?

I'm very up front about it and we only choose family friendly properties.

Did you suspect he was planning on shooting porn, or just having a few parties? ;-)

He told me he planned to use my address for a particular legal matter that he was dealing with at the time, which I wasn't comfortable with and didn't want to risk getting drawn into. He also made comments that suggested he might refuse to leave at the end of his short stay if he had not found alternative accommodation.

To be fair don't think I'd have been happy if he'd planned on having a few parties in my wee 1-bedroom flat either. I didn't buy my place to make money on airbnb, I bought it when I moved here then I've moved in with my partner when I got pregnant but keeping it until I've had the baby so my mum and dad have a place to stay to spend time with baby at the beginning (they live 4 hours away) then will sell it after that.

@honeybeebloom 'legal matter' doesn't sound that exciting, sadly.

But I get it - we were once about to let our London flat out over xmas/NY as we were abroad for three weeks, but cancelled as we found out they were planning a large NY party.

Holiday let prices have shot up. They'll be cancelling and reselling on a different platform for more money.

@ramarama
Definitely not, would be far more exciting if he was shooting a porn!

Think it seemed to be a messy custody dispute with his ex, who had moved 8hours away and he was coming up to sort access/stay near his child. He was wanting to use my address for court documents though which I didn't feel comfortable with, especially as he was only booked in for just over a couple of weeks. When I pointed this out and said that he was only staying at mine a couple of weeks so using my address wouldn't be appropriate he made some comments suggesting that if he didn't have somewhere else to stay by the end of his booking he would just need to stay on anyway, when I'd said I had other bookings so this wouldn't be possible this was brushed off. Lots of red flags that I just thought weren't worth risking and I really didn't want to get caught up in in anyway so figured it would be better to take the airbnb cancellation penalties than risk it.

We found another Airbnb today in Devon. Touchwood this one isn't going to cancel 😁👍
