Staying up late to get peace and quiet. Am I the only one?

Sometimes I know I should go to bed. I know I need the sleep, my kids will have me up early, I’ve a busy day, etc.

BUT.

No one else is up. It’s sooooo quiet. I can just sit here and drink my tea.

Going to bed involves doing stuff like getting the dog out, cleaning my teeth. I just can’t be arsed.

Am I alone in this?

Every single night

Chocolatecoffeewine · 27/06/2021 00:41

Me too!

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 27/06/2021 00:42

I do it as well but I stay up late IN bed, so my teeth are already clean and tasks done etc. but I read and scroll and think in peace. Far, far too late.

I can't sleep and there's lots of drunks going past. Earlier there were children screaming, really screaming, in a parking lot outside the flats opposite. Around midnight someone yelled out of the window to STFU.

No peace and quiet here.

Goldrill · 27/06/2021 00:43

Oh yes. And Foyle's war is usually on tv somewhere and there's no one else about to roll their eyes at me for watching it.

I may be also a teeny tiny tipsy myself, which is very very rare. 🤪

Yes and then I regret it spectacularly when the kids are up at 7am

coastergirl · 27/06/2021 00:46

Yep. I'm terrible for it. Except I drink wine and stay up far too late.

1WayOrAnother2 · 27/06/2021 00:46

And me :)

OhDear2200 · 27/06/2021 00:46

@Wheresmybiscuit3 oh obviously I’m regretting it.

You mean some people actually go to bed at a reasonable time? 🤔🤔

My youngest makes sure I'm up in the night too because she needed a wee and wants tucking back into bed, only to then go for a wee when I'm out of bed 🙄.

Camomila · 27/06/2021 00:53

Me too, am watching "we are lady parts" on e4 catch up with DS2 asleep on my lap.

I miss the days when they slept on my lap. Even in the middle of the night.

waves Definitely not just you. It is the only time I can get a solid chunk of time on my own (assuming toddler doesn’t wake) so I enjoy it, even if the next day the tiredness is brutal.

LemonSwan · 27/06/2021 00:58

I love it!

of course you are the only one. this post is a figment of your imagination

OnTheBrink1 · 27/06/2021 01:24

Yup this is me. Favourite part of the day. It’s so quiet and peaceful - just don’t want it to end most nights which is why I’m up so late

Rummikub · 27/06/2021 01:36

I’m the same!
Especially if I have been at work then it’s like I need a long gap before I can go to bed. Even though I need to be up early next day.

Me too.

This is the only time when there's no TV on. No other people. Just me and blessed silence
No young dc any more.
But v rare to get space.

Not usually up THIS late, but it is Saturday....

MadMadMadamMim · 27/06/2021 01:53

I'm up because I'm a chronic insomniac.

And that, ladies, is because I've had 40 years now of full time work and children and so when I get into bed at night, and turn the lights off and it's peaceful and dark my brain goes Ah! Finally! Now... what shall we talk about? This is the only chance I've had to get you on your own, all day. Have you missed me? What did you really think of Sarah's new curtains? Don't forget you've a dentist appointment tomorrow, will you? Do you think you'll finish watching that series on Netflix? I thought the last episode was slow - shall we bin it off?

For about the next three chatty hours or so.

DramaAlpaca · 27/06/2021 01:56

Yep, me too. I love this time of night.

Unfortunately DS, 23, is another night owl so is currently impinging on my lovely peace and quiet Angry
