What do you do on a UK holiday?

Hemsbyboc · 26/06/2021 19:27

First time on a UK holiday in my life. Kids have never been out of the city they were born in unless in a plane.
They are bored to tears.
What do you do??
Don't want to say exact location but it is coastal wales and we have driven here.
Honestly don't blame the folk going abroad despite restrictions. We are climbing the walls.
Been to 4 villages, takes less than an hour to walk around each one. Shitty cafés, food like school dinners. Tide is in so looked at the sea. Everybody in full winter clobber. I am not investing in body boards cos I never want to come back. Wales match is not even showing anywhere. I am 90% leaning towards cutting my losses and going home tomorrow, I have decorating/gardening I could be doing.

Save us mnetters!

We spent a fortune on our uo holiday this year. We usually holiday abroad in the sun.

2 kids and they need entertaining. Which is fairly cheap abroad there's a swimming pool and the lovely hot sun. Might cost me a few drinks and ice creams during the day.

Went to area near Blackpool for our holiday. We did Blackpool zoo which was very expensive to get in to about £70 including parking and petrol. A day trip to Blackpool with funfair and time making sandcastles on the beach, sealife centre, bowling, amusement arcades several times, soft play, swimming a few times, play parks. We ate out a lot like we usually do abroad but it's more expensive here too.

I better get my holiday abroad next yr!

MaMelon · 26/06/2021 20:44

Yeah, because the NT and castles are literally all that’s been suggested Hmm

DogInATent · 26/06/2021 20:46

Anglesey in wet weather, I feel for you. Wales in rain and a gale put us off tent camping completely.

But if you've got a car, you've got Snowdonia on your doorstep. Castles, standing stones, steam railways, hundreds of miles of coastline (the tide goes out and in, it's not always high tide).

JayAlfredPrufrock · 26/06/2021 20:46

So what would they do in foreign?

Branleuse · 26/06/2021 20:46

I dunno, I always check areas im gonna go on holiday that there will be things to do for the kids even if the weathers not great. Dont they like playing on the beach? Are there no arcades anywhere? Can you drive to somewhere a bit more lively?

Mrsjayy · 26/06/2021 20:48

place is dead, honestly

Why did you book im not trying to have a dig but why didn't you research your holiday .

littledrummergirl · 26/06/2021 20:49

@Sunshineshow mine love that. We did Stonehenge, Avebury, the west Kennet long barrow and Silbury hill on one day out. We had a fabulous time speculating about the people who but them and why. Mine want to go again.

Hemsbyboc · 26/06/2021 20:51

It looked like there was plenty to do and plenty of places to eat. They all have amended their opening hours and are closed ..weather also been shit. I honestly cannot believe so many teenagers like walking around in the rain

InaccurateDream · 26/06/2021 20:53

So you'd never go anywhere in the UK again? What about the Lake District? York? Bath? Liverpool? Edinburgh? Forest holidays? Ice cream on a pier?

You're missing out on so much

Mrsjayy · 26/06/2021 20:54

How many days have you left ?

Youreacockarentyou · 26/06/2021 20:54

I honestly cannot believe any adult books some where rural to holiday & doesn’t even look at what there is to do, especially with teenagers 😂😂😂 this is on you OP…

Gwenhwyfar · 26/06/2021 20:54

@Hemsbyboc

Great. The only place to eat in the village stops serving food at half 8. Don't tell me this is better than the biggest shithole in Spain
Well most people in the Uk will have their dinner before 8.30 as opposed to Spain where dinner is later so I don't really see how that's a comparison.
JayAlfredPrufrock · 26/06/2021 20:55

Rain is a part of life in the UK

If you don’t like it …….

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 26/06/2021 20:56

Everything is shit when it’s all shut or restricted due to covid. Especially when the weather is rubbish too. If you’d seen it on a normal sunny day you’d have probably enjoyed it a bit more.

Can you cut your losses and go and visit a city somewhere?

Mrsjayy · 26/06/2021 20:56

Well most people in the Uk will have their dinner before 8.30 as opposed to Spain where dinner is later

This Everybody on a UK holiday has eaten by 8.30 usually

sunshineandhappy · 26/06/2021 20:56

Zip world in north Wales

Gwenhwyfar · 26/06/2021 20:57

Walking in the rain is miserable, I agree. Walking on beach in wind isn't amazing either, but that's holidays in Wales for you. You knew this before you went.
Dahlietta · 26/06/2021 20:57

TheMoth · 26/06/2021 20:58

Liverpool is 2 hours away. Or Chester. You can get the train.

You say there are no tourists, so why are the roads into n Wales rammed on Friday nights? Where's everyone going? I live in the arsehole bit and it's currently taking me up to an hour to get over the border on Fridays.

Gwenhwyfar · 26/06/2021 20:58

@Mrsjayy

And it's not like Spain never has inconvenient closing hours and a huge number of public holidays!
Motorcyclemptiness · 26/06/2021 21:01

I was going to suggest mountain biking or going to visit Surf Snowdonia but it doesn't sound as if your DC enjoy any sports?
Then I started to wonder if this is the OP's way of passing a dull Saturday evening and if we are all feeding a troll....?

EwwSprouts · 26/06/2021 21:01

Hire stand up boards
Surf lesson
Coasteering
Let them bbq for you

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 26/06/2021 21:04

@Hemsbyboc

Thank you to everybody with constructive replies, we will drive back to the mainland tomorrow and do the trampoline thing I think
Did you look at the link previously posted www.dayoutwiththekids.co.uk/things-to-do/north-wales/isle-of-anglesey/teenagers. - it was one of the first things that came up when I googled. I appreciate not everything on there will interest them and some of them wi cost money but there is tons to do without going to the mainland.
Subbaxeo · 26/06/2021 21:06

Take them pony trekking. There should be a place locally to you which can do that. One of the big pointy mountains like Snowdon, Tryfan, the Glyders usually got my teens interested. Choose good weather day though, or else it’s miserable. Have you got a tv? Ours liked a Lord of the Rings marathon when it was shit weather - get snacks and drinks and dim the lights. Cheshire Oaks designer outlet is only just over an hours drive from the Menai bridge. Abersoch on the Lŷn is quite a trendy Cornish style resort. It’s a different style of holiday to hot weather hols-we love Italy but lounging around in the heat with ice cream and a little stroll just wouldn’t have the same magic in Wales. You have to get out and about. Oh and look up Portmeirion for an Italianate village with great ice cream and beautiful views on the estuary. Good luck, hope it gets better.
