What do you do on a UK holiday?

First time on a UK holiday in my life. Kids have never been out of the city they were born in unless in a plane.
They are bored to tears.
What do you do??
Don't want to say exact location but it is coastal wales and we have driven here.
Honestly don't blame the folk going abroad despite restrictions. We are climbing the walls.
Been to 4 villages, takes less than an hour to walk around each one. Shitty cafés, food like school dinners. Tide is in so looked at the sea. Everybody in full winter clobber. I am not investing in body boards cos I never want to come back. Wales match is not even showing anywhere. I am 90% leaning towards cutting my losses and going home tomorrow, I have decorating/gardening I could be doing.

Save us mnetters!

@Titsywoo

My teens would be bored anywhere if they stayed in one place for a week (unless they have friends with them). The last few years we have taken their friends with us but this year we are doing a road trip with activities along the way. No more than one night in each place and we are also finding funny place names while on the road (Cock Alley, Bell End, Lickey End etc) - childish but keeps the DC and DH amused!
I'd loathe packing up every night.

I've just read your updates OP and haven't read the other suggestions so Snowdonia national park has probably already been said. You're probably already home by the time you read this. Smile

I have a teen. We do more on UK holidays than abroad and because of that, he really values them. We go crabbing almost every day, build a sand sculpture at least once, get wetsuits and swim in the sea/jump off harbour walls. They are the staples around days out to castles and stuff. I much prefer family holidays here. They feel more together.

Ihatefish · 28/06/2021 07:31

I suspect if your teenagers are bored in wales and want WiFi then they would be bored abroad and want WiFi.

Not helpful now maybe but going forward I would ensure that they have a lot more trips outside their city and learn to be more curious about life.the U.K. is one of the most interesting countries in the world, walks, historic sites, beaches, learn a sport, diving, paddle boarding, surfing etc. Beach walks are great in the rain, find better restaurants.
Read books, play board games. Go ape, cinema, talk to each other.

If they haven’t done much maybe rather than being bored they just have no idea about what else is out there. Personally I would use this as a wake up call to change how you live life as a family generally.

All that flying is terrible for the planet. You talk as though teenagers are all the same, and some different breed of human. They're not. I took my teenager to Northumberland last year. We walked along Hadrian's Wall, visited some Roman ruins, walked on the beach. They loved it. Just being somewhere different is a treat.

kennycat · 28/06/2021 09:08

We go to national trust and English heritage places, random towns, Odd little museums etc.
If you are anywhere near where we went on our disastrous Welsh holiday you have my sympathies. There was nothing to do and we came home a day early. If you aren’t outdoorsy a lot of wales is a bit unsuitable!!

Get in your car and drive to places up to an hour away. Thats what we do on holiday. I dont believe all the eating places taste like school dinners, you must be eating in "cheap" cafes. Try local pubs and resturants instead. Go to a theme park like Oakwood or Folly farm if you are staying in Pembrokeshire. Mueseums, coastal walks, country walks. Dolphin trips, parks or take your kids swimmimg to a local pool. Try body boarding or take them to an aquriaum if there is 1 near by. Lots of things to do if your willing to spend money

We had a brilliant holiday in coastal Wales with 2 kids under 11. Coastal path walks, cricket on the beach, frolicking in sea in wetsuits, kayaking and surfing lessons, horseriding. Had fish and chips and a couple of outdoor pub lunches. Back to cottage for films with popcorn and wine for adults, maybe a board game or cards. Perfect! if that's not your bag perhaps UK holiday aren't for you.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 28/06/2021 21:04

Chuckling slightly that you are from Liverpool! Feck it. Go home.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 28/06/2021 21:17

Liverpool!!! Sheesh.

Treaddur Bay is full of Scousers.

Ted27 · 28/06/2021 22:42

I’m from Liverpool, my great grandmother was called Ruth Jones, very Welsh, and born on Anglesy. All my childhood holidays were spent in North Wales - Conwy, Harlech, Barmouth area.

Rhyl, Prestatyn, Llandudno rotated for Sunday school outings.

I now live in the Midlands but still go back to Wales for holidays. I have one teenager, we both like going abroad but we love exploring the UK as well.

blueshoes · 28/06/2021 23:03

We only go to places with great food. Hiking (not me, I stay in the cottage) and very occasionally local sights. For me, holiday is to completely veg out, read books and magazines and get away from work which is normally full on.

I bring my work laptop and second screen with me on holiday to catch up on work stuff I cannot do day-to-day Grin

BBOA · 30/06/2021 22:44

Got to be wetsuits and bodyboarding surely? You can hire them depending where you are.

This thread is hilarious.

mellismum · 21/07/2021 14:00

How old are your kids?
We have ages ranging from 6 to 12. It's overly weather go to the beach don't just look at the sea go in it even for a paddle. We usually stay some where that has a swimming pool and some kind of entertainment eg bungee trampoline high wires etc, but we also tend to go for walks play board games if it's raining play bowling, foot ball etc0. What do you do when you go abroad. Honestly

mellismum · 21/07/2021 14:02

Pressed send to soon. Honestly if we go abroad all we do is stay around the pool all day.

MirandaMarple · 21/07/2021 14:12

I choose somewhere with good food, interesting villages, good walks etc etc

I camp for a full week somewhere different every year. We have dogs and have seen so much of our beautiful country.

The weather doesn't bother me, I dress appropriately. The dogs don't care either.
