What would be fair?

My phone has been playing up. Interference when making calls or voice notes, sometimes completely silent.

Took it to a repair shop. They said it was strange but thought a new earpiece and microphone would sort it. £70. Fine, I thought. They served 3 other people while I was waiting (not sure why, they kept just stopping doing mine to see to other people). By the time they were finished i had a very cranky 8 month old with me. He tested it and said he thought it had solved it but to call back if not.

Got home. Not solved at all, in fact it's worse. Now I have no media sound at all, cant play anything.

He's told me to go back in but he said there isnt anything they can do.

What kind of refund would you think fair?

Total refund obviously. You paid good money over on the basis that he would fix the phone. He didn't fix it. He didn't carry out his side of the bargain so not entitled to be paid.

That's what DH says. But then part of me thinks he has tried and therefore should be paid something...

He has offered a partial refund but didnt say how much on the phone. I've got to go back to get the new tech taken out

Definitely full refund as the problem u paid to resolve hasn’t been resolved and like u say they’ve cocked it up even more x

Did you see him replace the parts?
Did he tell you prior to doing it it may not work?

He told you he could fix it, he made it worse a partial refund doesn’t cut it, you want a full refund- nope? Speak to the manager! Kick up a fuss- trash on social media etc Grin

Bizarre everyone saying full refund

He didn’t sell you the phone
You tried to fix it
It didn’t work
Unless he offered you a guarantee, very unlikely he will be obliged to offer you a full refund

He didn’t say he could fix it He said he “thought” is was the microphone and audio

In that case go and talk to him. No drama or threats, because really not much you could do.

No I agree. Yeah there is now no media sound at all.

I completely agree that he didnt guarantee anything

Explain worse than before “fix”
What does he suggest next step is

A)nothing can be done. In that case you say that given worse, you think a partial refund would be reasonable.

B) if he says something can be done, you say that presumably there will be no cost for follow up work

If he made you aware he could try it, but couldn't gaurentee it would work a partial refund, I think is more fair.

Partial because its actually worse now, which he didn't appear to tell you . If he said 'I can try this. Its £70 but it might not work and could make it worse. What do you want me to do?' And you went ahead I would say no refund is due.
