Is a removals service worth it?

Moving 45 mins away, 3 bed house to 4 bed house, we have lots of stuff.. been quoted £440 for removals, option £125 on top for packing service. DH insisting we can do it ourselves for £100 if we hire a van for the day, says that it isn't worth the money we could save and spend on nice new things for the house.

Surely it's worth it? We both work, we have young kids, surely it's just so much easier to pay and have it largely sorted for us?

Last time we moved we had nothing so did it ourselves, but we've got so much now (+ 2 kids we didn't have last time!) I just can't imagine the stress of trying to DIY it.

Reading this thread makes me feel like becoming a professional packer. I didn’t realise there was so much demand. I know pups love to pack up peoples houses for them. It’s an opportunity to get a good nosey! Smile

Yes, more than worth it. We even hired removalists to move us 2 miles up the road - it would have taken days and too many trips to count without them. Worth each and every penny!

So worth it. We move on Monday and we've had the packing team in today and in 4hrs most of the house is packed, last few bits they'll do on moving day.
On Monday they'll come in, disassemble furniture and reassemble it at the other side. So much less stressful.

There's no time to nosey - that's why they pack random things together.

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g my obvious problem will be collecting enough lovers to assist!! 😂😂😂

I don't mind packing myself but for the actual move, I'd pay happily - I'd pay twice the price! It's just too much work. You'd end up relying on your friends unpaid labour which is a bit cheeky imo. If a friend asked me to help them move, I'd say no way. I'd give them £20 as my contribution to paying a removalist.
