Can anyone suggest any gifts for a 13 year old girl, she likes fashion but otherwise I'm clueless what to get her. Not sure what 13 year old girls are into. Thanks for any suggestions !

Budget?

SupermanInk · 26/06/2021 00:22

Cash!

I gave some rather nice gifts to my 13 y o niece recently and they were received with eye rolls and disdain (they really were nice gifts, honest!) So I’m going for vouchers from now on and not bothering with gifts. Sister says 13 y o girls really like H&M vouchers so that’s what “D” Niece will be getting from now on!

Gosh how rude! Dare I ask what the gifts were?

A big gift bag full of toiletries and make up!
My daughter has had one every xmas since 13 & my son now too. They love it!
Just different deoderants, Perfumes, make up, face masks, hair brush, Hair bobbles, nice shower gels, bubble baths, bath bombs, hair gel ect.

stuckinarut sure - a string of little pastel LED fairy lights; notebooks and pencils in marbled pastels and gold; a little minimalist silver bracelet with small silver stars on it from Lisa Angel; a mint green mini travel jewellery case also from Lisa Angel.

Had debated giving them to my other sister actually or keeping them myself! None of them were at all horrid, it’s absolutely fine if they aren’t her specific taste but they were definitely not things to be rude about!

Well my 13 year old would be over the moon with a bag of old socks, some buttons and scraps of fabric. But she is slightly bonkers! She has just bought her friend ready threaded needles and buttons for her birthday. Not sure this is much help though!!!

At 13 no child should be eye rolling at a gift or being disdainful. I wouldn't bother with a gift next time if that was the case, just a card.

It is hard isn't it, I have a 14 year old niece and she is very polite but this also means we have no grasp on whether she actually likes what we get her or think it's uncool or what.

For her birthday just gone I got her a selection of bits from Glossier.

They sound like lovely gifts. I hope you won't bother next time!

As the mother of a 14 year old, cash. Family have been giving her cash (and a bag if sweets) for the last 3 years. She doesn't wear much make up or jewellery and prefers influencer/you tube merch to high Street clothes so she can save up and buy what she wants x

sweetkitty · 27/06/2021 18:05

As a mother of an almost 13 year old who isn’t girly at all, a book token, Amazon voucher or cash would be best. She would also love pens/notepads things like that.

YouLookSoCool · 27/06/2021 18:47

There is always an assumption on here that teen girls love make up/cosmetics/toiletries. Some love them but some (eg mine) definitely don't. I'd go for cash or gift card for H & M/New Look/Primark/Amazon if she's into clothes, or even better, ask parents where she'd prefer gift card for.

AmyDudley · 27/06/2021 18:48

I don;t think there are generic 13yr old girl gifts - depends on the child surely? Does she have any hobbies, does she like reading? Sports? Crafts?

Like a PP - my niece would have been thrilled with a bag of fabric and ribbon scraps for making stuff, my DD would have wanted piano sheet music and anything sciency or books. Neither of them would have been remotely interested in make up or perfume.

Doyouknowtheway · 27/06/2021 19:30

I think at that age unless you know what they're into gift cash or a voucher and maybe a nice personalised 13th keepsake (pen/keyring/mug).

TricolourCat · 28/06/2021 19:19

Thanks all for your suggestions which are very helpful and yes I guess all 13 year old girls vary in their tastes, perhaps if they have siblings who are older that influences them too. I saw Teen Breathe in Waitrose at the weekend and rang her mother to see if Phoebe would like it and she thinks it would be perfect for her. That may mean she'll hate it but I may take out a subscription for her. I wish I'd had it when I was 13 it has beautiful illustrations teen development stuff like handling social media, friends, feeling body positive, creativity and generally feel good vibes.
