How to find a therapist?

I have bad anxiety and feel completeIy burned out and overwhelmed. How do I go about seeing someone? I haven’t tried NHS/GP route yet, but tried a couple of therapists (accredited and everything) and had zoom calls. Didn’t feel good. One keeps repeating what I say with nothing to add. The other is worse. Completely useless it feels and is not going anywhere.

I don’t even know if I need therapy pr counseling…. I have seen a bunch of directories full of names and methods etc but it’s so hard to find a good one. How should I do this? What questions should I ask?

What makes a good therapist?

Any help is much appreciated

On the BACP website each practitioner has a detailed bio with some info about how they usually work and what they specialise in. Have a browse on there and see what appeals to you. You are right to move on from the counsellors that did not seem to be working for you. I can’t say what it is you should be looking for but looking at some profiles will help I think.

Word of mouth got me my current excellent therapist, but I did see two people whose approach didn’t work for me en route to finding her. I have to say that I couldn’t have started therapy via Zoom, so when I was looking (two months ago), I restricted myself to people who were prepared to see me in person (masked).
