Slimming World

I’m really trying but I’m quite a “traditional” cook, I can follow a recipe but I’m not that creative in the kitchen! I’ve tried a few Instagram Slimming World classics, like Campfire Stew and Diet Coke Chicken but it’s a lot of time and ingredients for not much reward (definitely wasn’t too impressed!). Plus my husband doesn’t like onions, mushrooms, pulses, etc. He doesn’t like omelettes or soup! My son is the same! I personally think onions are the base of a good casserole dish or stew but there we go. I’m struggling to stick to a plan and think up “syn free” meals. Plus, I hate skimmed milk so I’m not even enjoying cereal anymore!

Problem is, I’ve put on a stone in 10 weeks from Mirtazapine! I used to lose weight so easily but now I’ve pretty much cut out fats, sugar, bread, and upped my protein intake massively, and I’m still struggling to get this weight off!

Any tips?

Look up recipes on Two Chubby Cubs or Pinch of Nom. Both do lots of SW friendly recipes.

Use semi skimmed milk, there's hardly any difference in calories, just use a bit less.

Cook what suits you and fits in with the plan and DH can cook for himself and DS if they won't eat normal food like that.

Try calories counting with either Nutracheck or My Fitness Pal instead of SW. SW doesn't create a healthy relationship with food. Follow Dan Wheeler on Insta.

I don't like slimming world at all.

I think calorie counting is a lot better and you see more results.

Calorie counting takes a lot of brain space. It's extremely dull unless you eat a very packaged and repetitive diet.

There's nothing at all wrong with SW. It's mainly cooking from fresh ingredients and very limited junk after all, plus learning to tailor portion sizes to your own needs.

I dont like slimming world at all.

Go back to your normal family dinners. When plating up, serve yourself half a plate full of green veggies. Then add a portion of whatever the family have (reduced in size to take account the veggies).

Thanks guys. Looking at Dan Wheeler’s insta now. In all seriousness, I stupidly swapped the probiotic yogurts for Muller Lights and toasties for Fiber bars and the Batchelor Pasta N Sauce… I kid you not, I feel like my brain has gone to mush! I feel constantly tired and am always misplacing things, etc. I think I need some fat back in my diet!

You could give calorie counting a try? Nutracheck is really good and easy to use, it's much easier to eat real food (including fat, sugar, and bread) than to fry chicken in diet coke.

As an example, today I've had yoghurt and fruit for breakfast, ham sandwich with wotsits and an apple at lunch, and tacos with potato wedges, corn on the cob, and salad for tea. Later on I'll be having a cookie dough pudding thing with a scoop of ice cream and a tango ice blast, all for under 1700 calories.

Cut carbs not fats & proteins. Watch portion sizes & avoid snacks.

Mirtazapine is awful for this - consider an alternate perhaps

RichTeaCheddars · 25/06/2021 18:13

I've just come across the "No S Diet" and am giving it a go. It's pretty simple and designed for slower weight loss but (hopefully) more of a lifestyle change than a diet of that makes sense.

No Snacks, No Sugar, No Seconds except on days that begin with S - Saturday, Sunday and special days (birthday, religious holidays, life events etc)

bonfireheart · 25/06/2021 18:57

Buy the Pinch of Nom books from the Works.

I am gutted I just spent a fortune at Iceland for SW products and they are awful tasting. And their recipes are awful. I am going to secretly just cut down and replace with my own flavours etc. I am not convinced by some of what they suggest. I like the sausages and egg suggestion . I will eat the food I have bought as I can't afford to throw them away.

IggyAce · 06/07/2021 18:47

I’m of the opinion if you follow slimming world you are eating your way to type 2 diabetes because it’s so carb heavy and people yo yo diet on it. Honestly ditch the white carbs swap to wholemeal versions and watch your portion size. Count calories & carbs using an app already suggested.
Also ditch the muller lights they are no good for anyone, full of sugar & no nutritional value. 0% Greek yoghurt is a better choice.

Thorilicious · 06/07/2021 19:35

Two chubby cubs are fab. They've recently announced that all their meals will be low calorie, so should fit into either plan you do.

Sojouk65 · 07/07/2021 11:37

you are right, pasta, rice etc are free foods I was amazed!!! The meetings are like belonging to a cult. The people are nice but I am not sure I am going to be able to stick to their die religiously and give them the feedback they want to hear. I will adapt some of it but by no means all. I am not convinced that i tiny rind of fat is a deal breaker on bacon.
