Girls height / shoe size

My daughter will be 13 next month and is a shoe size 6 and 5ft 5inches. She started her periods a few months ago.

I'm taller (5ft 8inches) with size 7 feet and her dad is 6ft 2 with size 10 feet.

Is she likely to grow much from now? Really interested in others experience. I'm pretty sure I didn't grow much after year 7/8.

I didn’t grow much after year 7/8 either and I’m 5 ft 7 with size 7 shoes. My DS is 11 and already has the same size feet as me, he’s 3 inches shorter than me too so I’m convinced he’s going to be a giant Grin. 10 year old DD isn’t far behind him, she’s size 5/6 shoes dependent on brand and is about 5 ft 2.

Girls tend to be a similar height to their Mum and boys to their Dad. Not always but usually. My Mum is the same height and same size shoe as me.

Girls not growing after starting their periods is a myth. I was 5 ft 5 until 12 and then grew 2 inches from 12-16; and a lot of girls in my school did too. So it’s definitely possible if she’s a normal BMI.

Hi finallymightbehappening, I have tried this calculator which is nice: heights.altervista.org/

I guess I had already shared here in another past thread, sorry for double posting Smile

My younger daughter carried on growing until she was about 18. At 13, she was mistaken for an 8 yr old and she was still very short at 15 but then she shot up and is now 5'8" which is 6" taller than me.

She takes after my husband, who was very short until he was 16/17 but then grew to 6'3". I was the other way round - I was one of the tall ones at primary school but then stopped growing.

BiBabbles · 25/06/2021 13:27

Possibly, but there are too many factors to be certain.

Women in my family are a wide variety of heights and grew at different times - I was pretty much done by 13 while my sister is far shorter and had a couple growth spurts quite late (there were jokes made by others that she'd need a booster seat to drive, but managed to squeak over the state legal height requirement - getting from 4'8 to 5' and a very important quarter inch in her last few teen years).

My DD1 (14) has larger feet than me, but isn't quite my height yet, while nearly 3 years younger DD2 is nearly DD1's height already.

I was 5ft 2 until 16 when I left school. At my recent school reunion my old classmates were shocked to see me at 5ft 7. I kept growing until I was 20 and I am a shoe size 8-8.5

DD1 is 14 and already 5ft 6 and she size 7. She's likely to grow more.

My youngest was 5’4 with size 4 feet (clothes size 6) when she left school. She’s grown in the last two years (between 18 and 20) and is now 5’7 and a half, size 5 feet and dress size 8. I presume she’s stopped now!

I think I might have grown a little bit after getting my period at 12, but not much. And I don't remember my feet growing much. Apparently your feet can get bigger after a pregnancy or just get wider/flatter with age?

I presume she had a later puberty then?

Doesn't ask for parents' height or age at puberty, which might help predict.
thetall · 25/06/2021 18:44

Yes you are right.
I guess this site works only based on current height, assuming that if she is tall she will end up tall.
That said, there is no way to predict it precisely, not even getting if from the parents: everyone has her own pattern.
I liked the possibility of getting an idea of future shoe size, though!

PartTimeLegend · 25/06/2021 18:54

Girls do still carry on growing in height after they've started their periods, but it is common for their feet to stop growing once they reach puberty.

flyingbee88 · 25/06/2021 20:47

My DD1 was around 5’5 at 13 years old and had a size 5 feet. We thought she was done growing, instead she continued until age 17 (she is now 5’9 and size 7 feet). Most of her friends reached their mature height by 13 or 14. I think it really varies a lot.

IggyAce · 25/06/2021 20:55

My daughter is nearly 15 shoe size 5.5-6, she is already around 5ft 6 and apparently after taking part in a science workshop is expected to grow around another 4inches. Her friend who is 5ft 3 has apparently finished growing.
