Phishing email?

I've had an email this morning from my 87 year old dad's email account. The subject is 'Favour' and the text reads:

Good morning, how are you doing today?

Please let me know if you're available on email now

Best wishes,

[Dad's first name]

This seemed suspicious to me so I checked with dad and of course he didn't send it. My mum has had the same email.

My dad uses the computer a lot and is generally quite savvy about scams etc, though his eyesight is going so he doesn't always know what he's clicked on now.

I'm assuming his been hacked but I can't work out what the game is? The email seems to be from his genuine account and there are no links. Has anyone seem anything like this before? Not sure what to advise him to do.

The game is that you respond, and then they start a conversation which ends with them stranded somewhere and needing money.

He can forward it to [email protected] - more info here
