Grown adults crying to camera with sad music overlay - TikTok

Anyone else find this absolutely ridiculous / cringeworthy / sometimes hilarious?

Recent TikTok joiner - I don't post any content, I follow the educational hashtag #LearnOnTikTok and have come across some handy quick recipes on there but MY GOD, some of the videos that come up... this lunchtime was a man who easily looked 40, looking into the camera with wet and red eyes with the text box "when your kids go back to their mum until next weekend" and a sad ballad song added over it.

Maybe I'm getting old and/or this kind of thing is cathartic to some people who are upset.

Men are allowed to cry and show emotion

But doing it on tiktok for ‘likes’ is just weird

Tiktok is a weird place

cocoloco987 · 24/06/2021 13:12

Definitely odd, ridiculous, pathetic. Can't think if the right word. Crying for likes. Hope their kids don't see it!

Countrylane · 24/06/2021 13:12

I’d say that if the kids ended up seeing that, it would constitute the worst sort of emotional blackmail. I used to worry so much about the other parent when I was the child, and if my father had been wailing into Tik tok id have been so upset. What a Twat.

SionnachRua · 24/06/2021 13:12

Not a TikTok thing, it's a social media thing. Sounds no different to attention seeking on any platform - Facebook, Instagram, MN.

StrangeAddiction · 24/06/2021 13:13

I hate any kind of "sob story"and as soon as I hear one on the likes of X factor/Britain's got talent etc I have to turn it off!

I'd definitely roll my eyes at these TikTok videos

EishetChayil · 24/06/2021 13:14

Don't use TikTok. It's for nonces and idiots.

Abouttimemum · 24/06/2021 13:16

Yeah it’s ridiculous. Also the ones where they use cards with words written on them.
Fuck off, basically.
I don’t know what’s happened to the world.

LavendulaAngustifolia · 24/06/2021 13:18

It'll go away if you stop looking at it just like MySpace

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 24/06/2021 13:26

I can see why his ex left him tbh. Sounds like a moron.

But also I dont use tiktok because of this kind of stuff....

bringincrazyback · 24/06/2021 13:35

Sorry OP, I don't think grown adults should be on TikTok, full stop.

eddiemairswife · 24/06/2021 13:40

Everyone cries nowadays. What happened to the stiff upper lip??

cocoloco987 · 24/06/2021 13:52

Sorry OP, I don't think grown adults should be on TikTok, full stop.

Well it's not actually suitable for children

bringincrazyback · 24/06/2021 16:55

Everyone cries nowadays. What happened to the stiff upper lip??

Why does it bother you?

Well it's not actually suitable for children

Agreed, it's a teen thing imo

SorrySoldOut · 24/06/2021 17:15

DollyMixtureLulus · 24/06/2021 17:19

The ‘doing it for likes’ makes me slightly uncomfortable, but I think it is important for emotions to be discussed.

The ones that get me are people doing the dances and captioning them with things like ‘my DC have X condition’, ‘their life expectancy is…’ etc! To Justin Bieber’s latest bop Hmm

MyMabel · 24/06/2021 17:23

I’ve never thought to myself while I’m genuinely sad and crying over something “hey you know what? Let’s get me fuckin’ camera out and show everyone how upset I am”

“Crying into the camera and uploading it for millions to see sounds like a great idea right now”

I’ve never once thought that. It’s all for clout.. and it’s embarrassing, yeah people cry, people get upset.. it doesn’t even matter why they’re crying.. it’s the fact they have purposely recorded themselves crying.. and took the time to edit their own crying video to include sad must and a voice over title.

Just why?!

Ostara212 · 24/06/2021 17:31

Im not on TikTok but would automatically think #LearnOnTikTok was a joke.

Freefalling22 · 24/06/2021 17:37

I'm not on TikTok but I know someone who would do this. I think they have something on Instagram maybe, can't remember. Anyway, she's very dramatic and attention seeking IRL.

CoffeeCakePlease · 24/06/2021 21:35

@DollyMixtureLulus agreed, so weird when people are doing dance routines but captioning sometimes serious content 🤷‍♀️

I saw a video the other day, fairly boring - a pregnant woman and the caption question was if she had any other children - she was doing a routine while the caption box changed to the answer and the overlay song was Usher with the lyrics "You can twerk while in a split, you racking up them tips, Your body rock and your booty poppin', I'm proud to call you my bitch" 😂what even!?
