Has my missed miscarriage completed?

Hi all, sorry in advance if this is a long post but I thought all the back story would help and I'm am just so confused and conflicted about it all.

My husband and I were trying for our first baby, we fell in about 3/4m and we were over the moon. The only symptoms I had were implantation spotting and sore boobs for about a week.

From then on:
-I had spotting at 6w, went for an early scan could see the sac but still early but said all looked good.
-More bleeding occurred at 7w and slightly heavier, I was told to go to A&E they then told me I had cervical erosion and bleeding could continue throughout but to go for another scan if concerned.
-Throughout I had spotting but it got heavier again at 9w, I went for another scan and was told the devastating news that baby had stopped developing at 5w and 5d. So it was a missed miscarriage and it would have already been nearly 4w since baby passed.

-I had to go for a confirmation scan in a weeks time (reconfirmed but baby/sac was still present)

Throughout this time, I have had spotting: pinkish to fresh blood, a few small jelly-like clots, and passed one bit of tissue (before the scan so wasn't baby)
-I then was booked in for a medical miscarriage the following week for Wednesday and Friday. The Thursday after the first oral pill, I passed some more tissue (still spotting/ bleeding) then on Friday I had the pessaries and my bleeding was pretty much nothing!! it increased slightly on Saturday but the pessary came out and another bit of tissue. (none of the tissues resembled what I thought was a fetus). The bleeding has COMPLETELY stopped and still nothing 4 days on!!

Is my miscarriage completed? I would now be 12w. My experience is like nothing I have read or was told would happen. No heavy flowing bleeding, cramping on and off for like a day (before medication) and I haven't really passed anything overly large or fetus-like and the bleeding stopped almost straight away after the medical management. I'm SO confused!! Was it the cervical erosion causing the bleeding or have a slowly been miscarrying all this time?? Someone, please help!!!!

Hi @BClarkee sorry you have had such a tough time. I have had two MMC and I think the only way you know it is truly passed is to have a scan to check. With my first one I had stopped bleeding but still had a related cyst when I had my first scan after it, which took another couple of weeks to go. Is it possible for you to be checked?

So very sorry for your loss. The only way you'll know for sure is to ask for a scan, but with my 12/13-week MMC, it took ten days from the start of bleeding to complete and it was unmistakeable when it did. I'll post my experience below, but scroll past if you don't want the graphic detail.

On the day my miscarriage completed, I passed a large (kiwi-fruit sized), firm piece of tissue that must have been the sac, with very, very heavy bleeding (nearly went to A&E) for a few hours before and for several days after. I had a lot of pain early on in the miscarriage, on a par with actual contractions for hours at a time, but the pain had actually eased off for a few days by the time things completed, and then there was one long, slow pain shortly before I passed the sac.

I’m so sorry. I had a mmc at 12 weeks, when I took the pills I had the worst cramps ever a few hours later and then passed the sac which was definitely noticeable. The cramps stopped almost straight away and then I had some bleeding but not as much as I expected. I was just told that it was over when the pregnancy test is negative which it was a week later for me. However if I were you I would ask for a scan if you’re concerned.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences it really does help!

The early pregnancy unit has said I can come back for a scan next Friday (2 weeks after the pessaries) rather than just doing a pregnancy test at the 3-week mark.

@spiderlight @Shamoo how quickly did you stop bleeding after having the pessaries? Just has really confused me that I stopped bleeding completely literally the following day!
-What I am assuming has happened is the bleeding I have experienced over the past 7 weeks has been me slowly miscarrying and the 3 bits of tissue have been the sac and embryo. but you are all right a scan is going to be the bit that confirms it all. Just upsets me each day that passes. It's not knowing.

@FruitTwistFanta I think I will do a test mid-next week to see if the line fades. Thanks for the idea.

Also, hope you all don't mind me asking but have any of you gone on to fall pregnant again?

I didn't have the pessaries, as my miscarriage started on its own (found out about probable MMC at 12 week scan, sent away to come back in 7 days for another scan just in case my dates were wrong, but started bleeding before the 7 days were up). I bled loads for ten days up until the completion, and continued to bleed for about three or four weeks afterwards - very very heavily at first, but it did ease off. Hospital didn't want to know, GP gave me painkilles and a hug and I was just left to get on with it.

@spiderlight I’m so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your story. I hate that hospitals and GPS just send you on your way and expect you to just know what to do. All the best with your life now.

Hi @BClarkee sorry you're going through this.

Only a scan will tell you for sure, but it's quite possible that you have passed everything. As your baby stopped developing at 4/5 weeks you wouldn't expect to see anything resembling a foetus. Maybe some tissue from the sac. A 5 week baby is the size of a grain of rice, and maybe not even that given development stopped several weeks ago.

Hang in there and take care of yourself.
