What should I do?

Currently sat in the hairdressers chair with foils in.....

I am wearing a very expensive silk shirt as going straight on to lunch with a friend.
Sadly it has got several smears of dark hair dye on it and it is completely ruined.
The hairdresser is apologetic.
So where do I stand with this?
Do I take it on the chin and maybe Ishouldn't have worn something so expensive, or do I ask for some form of compensation?
I don't like confrontation so thought I'd ask MN for advice!

I wouldn’t have worn the shirt.

But that doesn’t help. Sorry.

Did your cape and towel get rearranged? I’d have hoped it would have protected you a bit?

She missed the covering the collar at the back and it has been dyed. Also a bit on one shoulder.
Shirt pale pink so very noticeable.

Ah now that is a bugger.

If they haven’t covered you properly (how can you tell if it is at the back?) then is that not on them?

I don’t know where you stand. But I’d have thought they should make sure the cape covers you up.

Apologetic to me suggests that they know they’ve messed up.

I hope your hair is lovely though.

I think they should cover the cost. When you go to the hairdresser, you expect a degree of competence and that your clothes don't get ruined.

They should cover the cost.

Even if you wore an inexpensive shirt, it still shouldn't get dye on it. That's why you pay for it to be professionally done instead of attempting it in your bathroom and getting dye everywhere!

You honestly shouldn’t have wore that when you knew you were getting your hair done. Or in future take an old top and wear it over your nice blouse whilst your in the hairdressers x
