Jilly Cooper help required

Can anyone help me. My mother in law has died and my husband has given me the job of finding a poem, I think, to go in the funeral order of service. The only trouble is, he needs it today.

Mother in laws great loves were horses, dogs, horse racing, the countryside, Coronation Street and Jilly Cooper.

I know Jilly Cooper is a great lover of quoting poetry in her novels and I wondered if anyone can think of any poems she quoted about horses.

I know this is a tricky thing to ask.

Robert frost - stopping by woods

If you visit pet plan charitable trust there is a memory capsule resource section under Legacy Resources which has Jilly Cooper reading a poem from Animals At War called I Walk with You

I think your mother in law would like that and may provide some comfort to you and your husband at this difficult time. What a lovely thing you are doing in her memory.

The Polo options are:

The gaucho Martin fierro - most likely unsuitable.

There's some Shakespeare about a horse - think it's Henry v, but again probably unsuitable.

Or there's the recurrent Robert frost poem, stopping by woods on a snowy evening, it's beautiful, mentions horses and is really all about death. Might work.

I think Billy (?) or Malise reads out 'Ode to The Horse' by Ronald Duncan at the Horse of the Year show in Riders because it makes Fen cry.

Sorry to hear about your MIL, hope you find something lovely Flowers

@inthekitchensink that was the only one I could think of, and it’s beautiful and would have been perfect for father in laws funeral, but I was hoping for something more horsey. In my distant memory there are poems about horses galloping? It’s been about 35 years since I’ve read it.

Ode to the horse sounds perfect. All her friends are horsey people and I bet it makes everyone cry. Thank you @CheerfulBunny

I love the sound of I walk with you too @inthekitchensink. I didn’t want to say before but he did ask for two poems so this is perfect. Thank you very very much everyone! You’ve really made me cry

You sound like a lovely daughter. I have many of the same interests as your mum and would love my girls to pick a horsey poem for my funeral.
