Shopping/eating with teenagers in London!

DS is 16 next week and wants to go to London for the day on Sat to get some clothes.
Then to go for a nice meal somewhere.

We have also said that we will buy him a very MODESTLY priced watch.

So we can try and plan the day I'd be really grateful for recommendations on best places to shop firstly for clothes and secondly to look for watches. DS already been told we're not going anywhere near the high end shops and to manage his expectations accordingly!

His first thoughts are Oxford Street and Convent Garden area.

Would also appreciate recommendations on a restaurant that teens would enjoy and again not ridiculously priced.

I'd go Oxford Street - the Oxford Circus end. Plenty of places like H&M round there. Don't know what your budget is for a watch but John Lewis have plenty of options. In terms of food, there's a Wahaca just off Regent Street which is always fun.

Eat in or take away?

My kids love Benito's, it's Mexican take away, it's fab. Shake Shack and Maxwell's are good for burgers. Both in Covent garden.

Great, thanks. JL is great idea for a watch. Hope they have a good selection.

We will probably eat in to make an occasion of it. Any other restaurants recommended?

Took my teenagers to Govinda's once. They loved the experience, it's run by Radha-Krishnas and is vegan. They are in Soho. It's pretty cool in there and the food is fab. www.iskcon-london.org/visit/govindas-restaurant

DS is a committed carnivore! I'd love vegan/vegetarian but think he's hoping for steak Grin

Any other restaurant recommendations? Someone suggested 'The Jam' on Kings Rd?

If you are on a modestly priced shopping trip I would avoid Kings Road!

A family favourite for us is Hawksmoor. You can also try Steak and Lobster, Flat Iron, Smith and Wollensky.... they all have a steak reputation.

For something a bit special, although a bit out of the way from Oxford Street - Sushisamba is a possibility - great views across London.

Kintan in Holburn, went there two weeks ago for a family event.

DorsetCamping · 22/06/2021 11:05

Definitely not shopping on Kings Rd, it would purely be to eat!!

Hawksmoor looks great although the prices slightly eye watering Shock. Great reviews though

Flat iron is a good shout, my teens go there often.

DorsetCamping · 24/06/2021 07:55
