I’m a midwife who qualified in 2018 and am due to revalidate around November this year but sadly, due to suffering with worsening ME, I will most likely have to stop working altogether for a period of possibly around a year in order to try to recover. I’ve already made my illness worse by pushing through for 4 years or so and now can’t even manage part time work. I am currently on sick leave.

How long do you have to be out of the job before a return to practice course is required? If I was off for eg a year, would my revalidation this year count for anything? I can’t work out if it’s worth me paying to revalidate when I’m not going to practicing.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you

I'd been off 7 years and had to do return to practice. 200 student hours plus all the Uni work. It took me 6 months.
For some reason I have the idea you can take 2 years off, but I may have imagined that.
You have to have 750 hours of work in the last 5 years. which really isn't much.
I'd do the revalidation anyway. Add up how many hours you'd need to do each year over 5 years and do the minimum if you are able. Its something like one or so 12 hour shift a month So bank would work.
