I have terrible posture and I'm worried I'm starting to get a stoop. How can I improve my posture as I keep forgetting about it, is there some sort of posture alarm

Build up your core strength with yoga/ pilates. Either will help with strength and alignment.

It might be useful to find a yoga therapist.
Someone who can do a 1-1 with you and see what your misalignments are and give you specific postural work to do to counter balance any patterns that you have accumulated.

pilates is really good long term, but depending on your skeletal issues, a session with a physio might also be beneficial.

You can buy a posture brace which is basically a figure of eight which goes around your shoulders forcing you not to slouch. I used one when I had a broken collarbone and found it very comfortable. I think it’s designed for everyday use. Don’t know how to link but you’ll find plenty on Amazon.

When I had sciatica my physio got me to get someone to put a strip of micropore tape down my spine and across my shoulders and hips every morning. If I slouched the slight pull was enough to remind me to stand properly.

Seeing an osteopath, originally for a sore lower back, has done wonders for my posture. The back pain was nothing to do with my back; it was poor pelvis position tipping my pelvis forward, tipping my belly out the front, so I compensated by arching my back and rounding my shoulders! Putting my pelvis in a better alignment has helped me to stand up straight Smile

Yoga and ballet really help my posture.

This link may help (if it works) www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/common-posture-mistakes-and-fixes/
There are quite a lot of good exercise videos on the nhs website.

I was thinking of getting one of those figure of 8 braces but wasn't sure how comfortable or not they were and if they visible under your clothes?

MarieInternette · 22/06/2021 18:22

@Meredusoleil

Wouldn’t be visible under a jumper or loose top. I found mine very comfortable.

Thanks Marie. Is there a particular one that you would recommend?
