Do you say please and thank you to Siri?!

I’ve only just started using him/her, and I can’t prevent myself from saying please and thank you! This is apparently (according to my dc) very funny! I’m sure I can’t be alone in being polite to my phone?!

Yes, I thank Alexa - its just good manners!

I don't know, I think its part of being brought up to be respectful of the tools you've been given - but my kids also find it weird and pointless!

Landlubber2019 · 21/06/2021 08:09

I also tell to them off if they don't listen .....

Nocaloriesinchocolate · 21/06/2021 08:09

Don’t use it but I do apologise to my car when I crash the gears (not often!).

Oh and years ago I used to know a Radio 2 announcer and I could never switch off the radio when he was talking because it would be rude!

Whatabouttery · 21/06/2021 08:10

No, I'm quite curt with Google.

I also tell it off when it gets things wrong.

It can be quite passive aggressive in return.

TheQueef · 21/06/2021 08:11

Alexa tells me I'm welcome.
She's the politest thing in the house.

NautaOcts · 21/06/2021 08:11

I do with Alexa but sometimes she understands the commands better if you keep it very simple. Am concerned for the next generation that they will communicate to each other in the way they communicate with Alexa/Siri and won’t ever say please and thank you!

YewandOak · 21/06/2021 08:25

I don't have Siri, but always say please and thank you to Alexa and my Google Hub. I also tell them in no uncertain terms that they're completely useless!

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 21/06/2021 08:28

I do also with Alexa Grin

Dontate · 21/06/2021 08:40

@Whatabouttery can you give us examples of the passive aggression?!

The politeness just kind of happens, I can’t help myself!

I don't use either but when the freezer warning beeps I tell it to fuck off🤷‍♀️

SilenceOfTheNaans · 21/06/2021 08:51

To quote a recent tweet I saw:

"Nobody deserves to be spoken to in the tone I speak to Alexa"

AintPageantMaterial · 21/06/2021 08:54

DH says “OK Google, Thank you” to the speaker thing in our kitchen and it replies - it usually says “it is a pleasure to serve” but sometimes it mixes it up a bit.

Dancer12345 · 21/06/2021 09:20

Haha I thought it was just me! Also, when Siri turns off the lights at night and says goodnight I say it back!

OhRene · 21/06/2021 09:22

Always. It's the norm to say it when asking for something so I wouldn't change the way I make a request to an object.

HilaryBriss · 21/06/2021 09:24

My Google home often replies with 'cheers mate!' when i thank it.

goddessofmischief · 21/06/2021 09:29

I say "cheers love" to Siri and it responds Grin

Faranth · 21/06/2021 09:33

I say 'thank you dear' to Alexa when she's done whatever I've asked. She doesn't answer, because I don't say 'Alexa' I guess.

However, when she decides to do a 15 minute marketing pitch about something instead of setting the pigging timer for dinner or whatever, I do get a little terse with her....

Whatamess582 · 21/06/2021 09:39

I always do.

Mainly because when Judgement Day starts, and the machines rise up, I fully expect Alexa to lead the charge. Manners can’t harm my chances…..

(Seriously though she is so disobedient at the moment and I swear she is ganging up on me with the kids. They put on ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ at 6.45am, volume 10 and I say ‘Alexa, please turn off’. Music stops. I turn my back and it starts again. This repeats 4 or 5 times and then I yell ‘ALEXA TURN OFF!’ Pause.

And then the cheeky mare says ‘okie dokie’ in a smug self satisfied ‘I got to you’ way. Kids are killing themselves laughing, I’m annoyed and I think to myself ‘laugh it up Alexa….. I’m so joining The Resistance when I need to.’

MrsFlinch · 21/06/2021 09:54

I often hear dd (18) chatting with Alexa.
Alexa told her to have a good day, heard Dd respond, Thank you, You Too!
But she’ll also have arguments with her as Alexa doesn’t always like to play ball!

It’s hilarious to hear!
