Asthma rescue pack insomnia hell.

I’m on third day of the rescue pack but I’ve been awake all night because of the effect of the first two days’ steroids and now I’m staring at today’s tablets and debating whether to take them.

I sleep badly anyway, but the last pack in November led to me being awake for four days straight and the last night I was just watching comedy box sets feeling jittery and talking nonsense. The steroid munchies will kick in shortly too. I seem to get worse side effects each time I need a pack.

I’m on a lot of cocodamol, amitriptyline and a antihistamine (cetirizine) daily anyway so I should be drowsy but i seem impervious to it all.

OTOH I’m wheezy and congested and do need the help, and I am CEV and don’t want to end up admitted in the (hopefully) final COVID peak.

The surgery is more or less incommunicado and full of locums. Can I taper the steroid dose (should be eight tablets a day) more gently and take the antibiotic as normal?

Any one know? Hints or tips?

Corticosteroids, not anabolic, before anyone says anything silly. Grin

My dm has to take steroids and she sets an alarm for 4am to take them. She manages to go back to sleep for a few hours and she's now in a routine and sleeping at night (maybe they take a few hours to kick in)

Maybe I should miss a day then and pick up tomorrow? This is so extreme. I don’t have a full day of work today but I do have a couple of hours’ worth to do, minimum. I’m simultaneously shattered and wired.

I will try the alarm tip, though, I mean, thanks.
