I forgot to look for drain unblocker when I went to Lidl earlier...

Any idea what'll unclog my bathroom drain?

*I haven't got a plunger & don't really want to have to go to town for one unless I absolutely must - I don't need anything else so can't really justify the bus fare :)

Is it your sink? Have you taken off the U bend?

EShellstrop · 20/06/2021 18:15

Sink is easier to yake apart than bath, overall, but either one should be easy to take apart and clear out the pipe manually. Brace yourself.

DuckyMcDuck · 20/06/2021 18:16

Do you have any soda crystals? Those plus boiling water should help.

Empty plastic milk bottle. Let air out and suction will clear it

SummerHouse · 20/06/2021 18:18

I once pulled a frog from our outside drain. Envy

lucysmam · 20/06/2021 18:19

gonow, no, it's the bath one. It's sealed with some putty stuff that sets like concrete because there's a leak no-one can locate so the plumber used stuff to seal it to eliminate that possibility.

I'll have a go at un-doing it in the morning but not sure I'm strong enough.

Ducky I do have some soda crystals! They'd be easier than trying to take it apart I think.

Erm, how does the bottle work?

OP posts:
ineedaholidaynow · 20/06/2021 18:22

It causes a vacuum so similar to a plunger

Snowwhite83 · 20/06/2021 18:57

Don't use sink unblocker ever , I work in a burns unit and you could end up with serious injuries and permanent scars, see it every week. Unscrew the pip or get someone to do it for you.

lucysmam · 20/06/2021 19:07

I'll youtube how to do the bottle thing & try unscrewing it, in the morning.

I'm sure the bottle thing's simple but my brain's not picturing how to do it Blush

Could try an unbent metal coat hanger and see if that shifts it. Works for hair/soap clegs in sink pipes.

missymoomoomoomoomoo · 20/06/2021 19:13

Net curtain wire down the hole and wiggle

EastWestWhosBest · 20/06/2021 19:15

Soda crystals and hot water usually does the trick.

GravityFalls · 20/06/2021 19:25

First step is boil a kettle and (carefully!) pour it down the drain from as high as you can safely do it.

sueelleker · 20/06/2021 19:31

Bicarb and vinegar should work too.
Pour boiling hot water down your drain.
Dump in about 1/2 cup of bicarb soda. Let that sit for a few minutes.
Then, pour a mixture of 1 cup vinegar and 1 cup of very hot water down on top of the bicarb soda.
Cover with a drain plug in order to keep the reaction below the drain surface. Let the reaction sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
Remove the drain plug and flush it down with one more pot of hot water.

BigMamaFratelli · 20/06/2021 19:45

Washing up liquid and really hot water works too. Depends what the blockage is really. But soda crystals should also shift it

ineedaholidaynow · 20/06/2021 19:54

Have you tried the soda crystals @lucysmam?

lucysmam · 20/06/2021 20:33

No, no-one needs to use it so I'll tackle it in the morning after work.

BigMama the blockage is most likely hair from me and the girls, even though we use one of those hair catcher thingys & clear out the plug hole after each of us showers 🙄

Several pans of boiling water. Poured very carefully.

MrsDThomas · 20/06/2021 20:46

Best thing i bought was one of those plastic things with small spikes on it and it goes down the plug hole and every time it brings up something resembling a dead mouse.

There are 3 of us in the house with long hair snd its bloody disgusting. Cost me a quid in the hardware shop.

Plus soda crystals every now and then, but you really need to remove what is there
