If you've lived/ studied in Plymouth, please advise me!

DSS has a place at Plymouth uni. I am taking him there to get a feel for the place. He is quite anxious and green so I hope this will help put him at ease.

My plan is basically:
Lunch at the Hoe (somewhere)
Wander around city centre
See location of halls
See location of lecture buildings.

Would be hugely grateful for any tips of particular streets/ bars/ areas/ features which would either be pleasant in themselves or would give a reflection of the student vibe of Plymouth.

I went to UoP, although commuted as only 30 mins away. Back in the day we spent a lot of time around the Barbican on sunny days. I spent probably too much time in the pubs around the UoP halls also, particularly the skiving scholar. Have a wonder up to Mutley, a lot of my friends lived around there in yr2/3.

I had a fantastic time at UoP, and have fond memories of being there.
