Tell me about Canada for holidays

I'm fantasising about when we can confidently book our next big holiday.

We're a family of Disney lovers and tend to visit Florida most summers, not just for the theme parks but lots of other things on offer. With a big family of varying ages, it suits us as we can all do our own thing or chill out by our own pool.

However, there's more to life than Fla. and I'm thinking of a family holiday in Canada. We've never been but I've heard nothing but good things.

What amazing holidays have you had in Canada?

Canada is amazing! We did a self driving tour through the rockies and then to Vancouver. We saw lots of people with small kids doing similar route with a camper van, presumably cheaper! We used Trailfinders, they were great.

Lake Louise, BlackCombe, Whistler, Banff and the Rockies in general are all beautiful. I loved Lake Louise especially - it's stunning.

We did Toronto and Niagara for a week. Used Canadian Affair who were fab and who deigned it all in budget.

Sheraton Niagara Falls View 2 nights
Sheraton Toronto Club Level 5 nights. We had free canapés and a basic breakfast inclusive.
Transfers and Taxis
City pass included the CN Tower and the Aquarium and a arrange but interesting Casa on the edge of the city

Rest we did with walking and our own research. Loved Ice Hockey .Make sure you catch a game. We saw the Marlies at a family event as the tickets were cheaper. Or Baseball.

We went in February and it was brrrrr, so wrap up warm and use the PATH (Underground walkways)

Fab city!

Niagara is commercial . If you want to say you've seen it, do it. If not, maybe do another 5 nights in Montreal or Quebec.

I did Toronto, Banff m, Rocky mountaineer and Vancouver.

Was a bit meh about Toronto - nice enough but didn't jump out as anything special.

Loved Banff and the mountains would like to have spent more time there. Rocky Mountaineer - loved it but not really a kids thing I would say. Really enjoyed Vancouver and would imagine there lots in that area for teenagers. We did seaplane and whale watching.

Quebec old city is beautiful and Montreal has great food and the Grand Prix. Banff to Vancouver via the Rockies beauty spots is stunning, if the kids are old enough you can go white water rafting, hiking etc.
If you like golf, the mountain air does wonders for your drive.
Whistler has lots of mountain sports and is great in the snow.
It’s very easy to drive there and it’s very laid back.

Following!! Thinking of this for us too - I'm keen to explore mountains in the summer can someone tell DH that it's worth doing not just in ski season!!!

We actually flew into Seattle (we were young and poor and it was cheaper!), then over 2 weeks we drove up to Vancouver, Vancouver island and Whistler and had a couple of nights in Seattle before flying home. I think we stopped for a night somewhere between Vancouver and Seattle. We mostly did outdoor things - walking, canoeing, cycling etc

I worked 5 weeks in Banff and then travelled across to Vancouver over 2.5 weeks. We went to lake Louise, Jasper, whistler, Vancouver island & Vancouver (and some very tiny towns overnight on the way). It’s just beautiful and plenty to do/see (on Vancouver Island we went bear watching!!)

The following year we did a circuit of eastern Canada/USA, and went from Niagara Falls across to Montreal before dropping back down into the States. Best two holidays we’ve ever done & highly recommend it. (Two other couples in my family ended up doing similar trips in the years after, after we raved about it 😃)

We had family in Canada when I was a kid and summer holidays visiting them were amazing. Not tourist stuff especially, just lots of playing around outside, riding bikes on bike trails to parks, camping in the foothills of the Rockies, canoeing and cookouts. They have so much beautiful open space with the infrastructure in place so people can easily enjoy it.

(It did leave me with an irrational fear of bears back in the UK though!)
