Which loo roll lasts the longest/is best value for money?

me4real · 20/06/2021 00:33

I'm having to try and budget better and it is annoying me that maybe the cheaper ones run out faster, so are a false economy really. Or am I wrong?

Which loo roll is the longest-lasting?

I think I have normal 'habits' and am not fussy about which one I have- money is my only concern.

Any suggestions? Grin

I get who gives a crap. Its great, family of 4 and a box lasts us about 7 months. Dissolves easily too so less likely to block the loo.

Same here. It's great.

@me4real I don’t buy the really cheap stuff (‘value’ level) as it definitely is a false economy. But I don’t go ultra high end either. Usually one price step up from supermarket own, so two steps up from value, is good enough for me. Most important is the ply (how many layers).

LynetteScavo · 20/06/2021 09:22

The Aldi Saxon rolls are 2.09 for 9 rolls. They're mid range quality, I've not had any complaints. I think my family pull a lot off at once, so thicker isn't a saving here.

JaninaDuszejko · 20/06/2021 09:25

We just bought a couple of boxes of Bumboo. Very pretty although I'm not convinced individually wrapped rolls are good for the environment. But even though it's more expensive than Sainsbury's own brand recycled it didn't feel any thicker or last any longer. WGAC is more expensive and has the same issues with the individual wrappers and since you've all said it's shite and it's all over instagram I'm not going to try it. We get through more paper than average as well.

HighlandCowbag · 20/06/2021 09:30

I buy Andrex from B and Q, 24 pack for £11. It was a life saver during BogRollGate last year, they never ran out!

Asda Shades is a good buy as well and comparable to Andrex. And Aldi isn't a bad wipe either.

Squirrelblanket · 20/06/2021 09:41

We get the Aldi most expensive ones, in the purple packet.

I'd love to do the subscription but we don't have anywhere to store it.

espressomartiniftw · 20/06/2021 09:46

@RolyPolyBatFace

I buy 54 rolls of andrex supreme quilts from Amazon on a subscribe and save. Costs me £20.09 per 54 rolls.

I don't think there's better value out there. I was getting Bumboo delivered at £36 for 48 rolls so this is far better value

I do exactly the same thing. It lasts because it's thicker and you don't need as much

The same 24 pack is often £9 something in Tesco.

Dove bars of soap. Buy a pack of 20 bars at a time from Amazon. Wgac bamboo loo roll. Also get fairy/ dishwasher tablets etc in bulk

Means I do one large order one evening and don’t have to think about it for ages or add any cleaning stuff to regular supermarket shops

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 20/06/2021 09:51

@Happenchance

I'm not a fan of Who Gives A Crap. I find that it crumbles and leaves bits on the bathroom floor (and my arse) and I suspect that it was responsible for an anal fissure that I suffered last year (that still hasn't healed Blush).

I'm also slightly sceptical about how environmentally friendly it is because it is shipped from China; I would always choose a product that has a lower carbon footprint over a product that uses less plastic, especially when plastic toilet roll wrappers can be recycled in various supermarket stores.

I think that bidets/bidet attachments/portable bidet sprays are the best way to reduce toilet roll usage.

Dont have big enough loo for a bidet but what are the attachment things and do they work for toilet cisterns? I have wanted a Turkish toilet for ever ... they have a water spray on them which just seems so hygienic ...
purplebagladylovesgin · 20/06/2021 10:00

I find the Aldi ones seem to last the longest. Big brand names are thick sheet for sheet but our children block the loo by using half a roll.

The Aldi ones seem to have a smaller tube but bigger roll and the 6 pack lasts as long as the brand name 9 pack. Much cheaper too.

Happenchance · 20/06/2021 10:18

@Toohardtofindaproperusername I’ve not looked into them in great detail because I live in rented accommodation so I’m not in a position to fit one (but I have used them when abroad). You can get toilet seats with bidet attachments already fitted but you can also get attachments to fit to existing toilet seats, e.g.: www.wayfair.co.uk/diy-plumbing/pdp/vidaxl-attachment-hot-cold-water-dual-nozzles-toilet-seat-bidet-vdbb1528.html (I don’t know if this is a good one).

There’s also these, which I was very grateful for when I had a stomach upset abroad: www.bigbathroomshop.co.uk/milano-mirage-modern-wall-hung-douche-spray-chrome-69108?gclid=CjwKCAjwzruGBhBAEiwAUqMR8OtYKLK-yHmVv_g_HEN7nLuUUpHQPd3JDQcn3XefsKopX9oR-KlbAhoCwq8QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds (Again, I don’t know if this is a good one).

I’m probably going to buy a handheld bidet spray like this: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07P4MP4RG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ascsubtag=988781583-311-275787818.1624180434&SubscriptionId=AKIAJO7E5OLQ67NVPFZA&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

UnbeatenMum · 20/06/2021 10:23

Home Bargains do 18 rolls for £3.99 which is the cheapest I've found although I haven't compared number of sheets etc.

Yayayaya20 · 20/06/2021 11:08

@RolyPolyBatFace well a few of us are counting on you now. It came up a bit dearer for me but I’m happy with the price and got some money off my fist one so thank you very much!

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 20/06/2021 11:36

Nicky from home bargains, tried most and think it is the best value for money and quality. Like andrex quilts but dont think it is worth double the price.

me4real · 20/06/2021 11:58

The reason I converted to using hand wash to wash is I have ADHD so find housework hard. I found that soap left sludgy bits where I put it, so I had to scrub it away, and it was sometimes quite resistant.

Will try the Tesco soap one of you recommended, thanks.

@Yayayaya20 well if you're in the market for toilet wipes - if that's your thing - I can recommend a good deal for those too!

GADDay · 20/06/2021 12:09

Another WGAC fan.

TheChosenTwo · 20/06/2021 14:04

We’re having a toilet roll issue of our own right now, they are all too soft! I don’t want to be wiping with anything fluffy or quilted, nothing with loose fibres etc, just some good old hard scratchy loo roll Grin I tend to go for the recycled stuff but even that is now ‘luxury’ - dh and I are not luxury arse wiping types of people Confused

Harpydragon · 20/06/2021 16:10

Costco kirkland own brand loo rolls are fab. We've used them for years converted my mum too. 40 loo rolls last 3 of us about 6 months. Would never use anything else now.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 20/06/2021 16:19

another for Kirkland from Costco - used to buy Andrex from there when on offer but now completely converted.

MayflowerMaisie · 20/06/2021 16:50

Cushelle double or XL is our go to!
Huge rolls that last ages. But only seem to find them in Waitrose.

Hemsbyboc · 20/06/2021 17:10

I've just got the 54 andrex from amazon for £13

Meruem · 20/06/2021 17:27

That amazon seller will be wondering why they had such a spike in sales today Grin
